Nice in a Pinch

We booked this reservation as it was the last room left in Boone, NC for Fall Family Weekend at Appalacian State University. Was hoping to also have a romantic weekend with my husband. The house was extremely old downstairs but clean and had a couple of sitting areas one with a TV. The owner was lovely and eager to please. The upstairs was newer, however our room was one with non working air conditioning and the windows had been kept closed so it took almost 24 hours to cool down even with the fan on. It was very warm and stuffy the first night. By the second night with the windows open it was comfortable. The owner did say she was having problems with the air in that room. Additionally, the reservation was supposed to be with a private bath and we were told that none of the rooms had private baths even though this was advertised and in our confirmation. The room had two double beds and I expected a queen or king....thus our romantic weekend seemed a little awkward. Lastly the inn is at least 20 minutes from anything in Boone and 3000ft up a mountain. It is a winding ride and difficult to find under the best conditions..thankfully our GPS worked...others may not be as lucky. If the weather is rainy or snowy, it would be a dangerous drive in the night time.
