Andrea & I have enjoyed hosting some 300+ Families/Groups since Nov 2011 and put tremendous pride into decorating “The Hive” to the season, with a Quaint, Traditional, Old/Antique, Classic, Country New England Style. This attention to detail and personal touch, has helped create a very special character, a unique charm, and a warm homey feel to “The Hive” that is hard to describe, and hard for many to remember a time away they felt this same way. Andrea, our kids, & I have only just recently begun to realize how truly unique and how very special this property is, while providing our guest the opportunity to experience what may not be able to be duplicated throughout the entire state of Maine or even all of New England. The one thing we are positively certain of though, is no matter what season you come, and no matter what the occasion may be for, you and your family/group will have nothing but a First Class & Remarkable Log Home Experience at “The Hive” Luxury Mountain Log Home at Shawnee Peak / Moose Pond. 5/5 Excellent

We had a great experience having our family gathering at the hive. It was very clean and incredibly well stocked with everything that we needed.

I completely understand the term “luxury” is subjective, but the core definition was not represented. I considerer myself to be a very understanding individual and realize not everything will be perfect. We finally chose this place under the description of a pristine and comfortable luxury living on a mountain for a few days. The owner "guarantees the little details are a priority." This was not the case! I would like to emphasis that not everything for this place was misleading. This unfortunate review would not be happening if this was ten years ago when the property was new. My complaints ultimately stem from a lot of little things that have added up. This place has not been properly maintained. I immediately starting taking pictures of things on all floors to prevent the owner from blaming us for his lack of upkeep. The Basement: 1. Large stains on the carpet. 2. Large rips in the carpet. 3. Very musty and moist. 4. Dryer was missing knobs and did not dry effectively. Main Floor: 1. Sofa and loveseat were completely covered in stains. 2. Main ceiling fan was broken and unusable. 3. A lot of the dishes and coffee cups were chipped. 4. Old pots and pans. 5. TV was covered in stains. 6. Bathroom walls were covered in stains. 7. Dirty carpet in the bedrooms. 8. DVD player did not work. Second DVD player on top of broken DVD player had no remote which made it unusable also. 9. The gas stove was missing a knob and the main burner in the middle had a broken knob which made it unusable. This was concerning because we kept checking to make sure it wasn’t bumped and gas was leaking. 10. The complementary smores left on the table had expired months ago. 11. Guest information guide was covered in water stains and was barely readable. Master Bedroom: 1. TV was broken. -No cable. No sound when trying to watch a DVD. 2. Bathroom fan was broken. Outside: 1. Grill is completely disgusting. 2. The grill utensils that were left out for us still had a significant amount of food on them. 3. Cobwebs covered the porch. The bottom line is that this property is used and an investment and because of that, it should be properly maintained as such. All the things listed above are from lack of upkeep and can easily be fixed. By reinvesting a couple thousand dollars, this place would be once again a 5-star rated place. Unfortunately, it is not there now and should not be charged or represented as such.

          summer lodge

the property was beautiful, plenty of space for guests. beds for 12 if you double up on queen & king, 1 convertible sofa, the rest are couches. there are ticks if you walk out to the slopes but down the road is a trailhead to the summit of the mountain. beautiful hike, about 4 hr total up & down

          5/5 Excellent

            Great place!

We enjoyed our stay at The Hive very much. Beautiful log cabin with plenty of room for our family and friends. Great location to ski in and out of. We can’t wait to go back next winter.

            4/5 Good

              Very comfortable home!

We were a group of 14 women sharing the home. Lots of room to spread out, though we mostly hung in the kitchen and living room areas. Great table for playing games, nice fireplace (though the wood was a bit tough to get at outside), well appointed kitchen and kitchen appliances/accessories. The ski in/ski out was great although the lift was only operational on the weekend. But it's a very short drive to the base lodge so no problems there. I would not recommend more than 14 or 15 even though you can get 22 in there. 22 would have been a bit crowded for our crowd! Overall a pleasant experience!
