Oriente has plenty to keep you busy, but don't restrict yourself to one place. Book a set of wheels and head off to discover what else awaits in the surrounding area. We've pulled together these great options:

• Head off to Culebra for a fun-filled sightseeing experience. Around 50 miles from Oriente, it has numerous amazing sights such as Flamenco Beach.
• Your next pit stop? Make it Garrochales, which is around 35 miles away. Bosque Estatal De Cambalache is one local hot spot you shouldn't miss.
• Head to Mona Island to rediscover nature. Pack a picnic to enjoy or just chill out in the fresh air. From Oriente, it's about 120 miles away.

If you don't have a driver's license issued in Puerto Rico, then you may need to apply for an International Driving Permit (IDP) in your place of residence to be able to rent a car. It's also important to note that if an IDP is required, it won't be valid on its own. You'll be asked to show your driver's license from your home country your passport and other forms of ID as well. Lastly, make sure the credit card you used to book the rental matches the name on your driver's license and passport. Some other things to note for international car rentals are:

• Age restrictions: You need to be 25 or over in many countries to rent a car. If you're younger, it may still be possible to rent a car but you'll have to pay a Young Driver's Surcharge. Additional restrictions may also apply to the types of vehicles available to rent.
