Visit the beach to snorkel or swim, relax in beautiful surroundings or walk along one of the world’s most scenic clifftop trails. Laid-back and family-friendly, Clovelly is one of Sydney’s most tranquil eastern beach suburbs. Head to the protected beach or enjoy a well-earned pause along the cliffside trail between Bondi and Coogee. When you visit Clovelly, take your time to relax in this neighborhood whose gorgeous scenery, café culture and understated lifestyle make it beloved by those lucky enough to live here.
Stroll to Clovelly Beach, a small inlet renowned for its gentle waves and abundant sea life. Since the channel is lined with concrete, the water is sheltered from the swell and offers gentler ocean swimming experiences, well suited for family groups and the elderly. Enter the ocean at your own pace using the ladders provided.
Swim in the enclosed saltwater pools. Children and adults can relax at the small sandy beach. Purchase a snack from the kiosk or stop at the café to enjoy a coffee and a healthy meal on the terrace overlooking the beach.
Clovelly is particularly popular among snorkelers. Put on a mask and snorkel to join in and marvel at the underwater wonderland. Admire the colorful coral ecosystem, count the fish species you recognize and watch for a mysterious blue groper, the New South Wales state fish.
Head uphill for lunch and a beer at the Clovelly Hotel, a stylish art deco pub frequented by both after-beach and after-work visitors. Journey farther inland along Clovelly Road to try one of the suburb’s cafés, bakeries and restaurants.
The Bondi to Coogee clifftop walk passes through Clovelly Beach. Follow the trail north to see Waverley Cemetery, one of the city’s most beautiful resting places.
Travel to Clovelly the scenic way by walking along the cliffs from Bronte Beach or Coogee Beach, each about a 45-minute walk away and easily accessed by bus. Some metered parking is available near the beach, while street parking can sometimes be found farther away. Bring the whole family to discover why locals never want to leave this gorgeous suburb.
