Rooms we were in had been recently refurbished so were bright and smart. There was a lack of drawers for unpacking clothes.
It was strange not seeing any reception staff for the length of the stay.
Beautiful and plentiful lounge facilities but no provision of drinks. Next door pub accessible to staff through an inside hallway but guests need to walk outside and round to the pub.
Cleaning staff were pretty early to try to gain access to bedrooms. However they did happily go away again..If we had been having a lie in it would have been more unwelcome.
Ironically since we went away to escape building work at home, the hotel is being refurbished so there were builders working in bedrooms just along the corridor from our rooms.
There was also a delivery of large boxes of furniture in the entrance hall, at the bottom of the stairs. This was there for the duration of our stay. Apart from being a fire hazard it also looked messy and wasn't conducive to a relaxed ambiance.
Breakfast was ok.
Buffet selection limited - only fresh fruit each day was melon, 1 option of milk, croissants each day looked like mass production and we're not warm.
Cooked food generally pretty good but some items of poor quality.
There was a choice of milk for porridge but despite daily feedback remained stodgy.
Gluten free bread was inedible.
Positive note - location is ideal and cleanliness is very good.
