After traveling all day we got to the Hillcrest only to find out they did not have all of our rooms. They tried to get us to share the room they had. No phone call to let us know ahead of time. No help in finding us another room. Their thought was that I reserved 4 rooms and they only had 3, that I should still take the 3 rooms because I reserved them. We ended up at going back north to a hotel we passed 30 miles before. Very unhappy that Expedia would even list this property.

Over paid waiting till the last minute, but that’s my fault. Not worth the $400 I paid! Dated rooms, funky smoky smell. Non smoking rooms smell, can’t get around that when smoking allowed in hotel. The steak house was excellent though.

We stayed at The Brown about 10 years ago and loved it, so we were excited to return. Unfortunately, this visit was very disappointing. The location is excellent, the lobby is beautiful, valet was quick to bring the car around, and we appreciated having a mini fridge in the room. However, the hotel now feels poorly maintained. Our mattress was extremely uncomfortable with noisy springs, the room furnishings showed wear, the mirror was in poor condition, the bathroom vanity was dirty, the blinds were dusty enough to write on, and the bathroom door had visible dark grime along the edge. We also saw stained hallway carpet, multiple nonworking ice machines, dirty exterior windows, and visible rust/staining around exterior fixtures. Service was inconsistent as well, including a frustrating check-in, housekeeping concerns, and valet bringing our car promptly but then leaving us waiting for the keys. We contacted the GM during our stay and had still received no response by checkout. The Brown still has beautiful historic character and a great location, but the level of maintenance, cleanliness, and service during this stay was nowhere near what we remembered from our previous visit.
