Not as expected!

The hotel was supposed to be in a central location but it was 12 minutes walk to the shops and then a further 12 minutes walk to the bars, so it was too much effort to go out for a beer and something to eat on Saturday night. In cold weather conditions, you really needed to take a taxi everywhere. It was deadly quiet too with no atmosphere. In fact, it was more akin to a gentleman's club, rather than a hotel. But in saying that, the staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The rooms and bathrooms are very large and very clean, so if you are looking for a quiet hotel, well off the main thoroughfare, it would ideal for you!

Excellent Choice in Edinburgh

Good location in new town. Truly excellent service. We dtsyed in the cottage, which gave is lots of space snd we still enjoyed a good breakfast.

Nice hotel in Edinburgh

Initially I booked this hotel for me and my husband, but at the last minute we had to bring our young children (4 and 1,5 years old). This was not a problem for the hotel and we were upgraded to a bigger room with a sofa bed and space for a cot free of charge. Breakfast was a la carte and very nice. It is a small romantic hotel, 10 mins walk out of the city centre. However, for a 5 star experience could do with some updates. Unfortunately cot did not have a proper matress and the sofa bed was like a trampoline - very uncomfortable. Otherwise it was a nice experience.

Superhotell!

Butlerservice som inte kostar något extra. Underbar frukost på vit linneduk som beställs från menyn. Lugn miljö. Typisk brittiskt. Personalen gör allt för att vara behjälpliga. Trodde inte att detta existerade idag. Jag beställde ett bad på hotellrummet som gjordes i ordning an en "bath butler" och jag beställde ett glas champagne till. Lyx! Jättegod frukost. Något sliten inredning, men det gjorde ingenting.

Excellent staff and lovely room

Often there are some good staff in a hotel, it is very rare to find that all staff are so helpful, informative and pleasant however that is what you get at the Howard - well done to them. I was surprised that everyone could be so good, all the time. The room was very nice and you are close to the city centre. We ate in the restaurant for an evening meal and the food was very good, breakfast every morning was great and over the three nights there my wife and I tried most options and they were all good.

Historic Hotel with Character

This hotel sits among brownstones houses and is off the tourist path. Wonderful reception team and great butlers. While the hotel is older, it has historic charm. Breakfast was wonderful with fantastic choices. Rooms are spacious. Hotel is within walking distance of pubs and great restaurants in Stockbridge. Loved the overall experience at this hotel.

Incredibly disappointed

Petit double room was tiny and was not reflective of the pictures on either travel or the hotel websites. Room was tired in terms of decor, furniture and bedding. The bathroom was much the same and even had a rusty/ dirty looking plug hole Not 5, not 4 and not even 3 star I'm afraid. Would not recommend or stay again

Style and service.

We had an Easter weekend i Edinburgh. The service at the hotel was perfect. The breakfast excellent. Friendly and service minded staff. The room had plenty of space. One of our best hotel experience.

Wonderful!

The Howard exceeded our expectations and it is possibly the best hotel experience we have ever had, at least in the top three. The hotel was deluxe without being stuffy, the staff was attentive to our needs and useful in helping us plan activities and dining, and the location was convenient to our interests.

Wonderful trip to Edinburgh

Few days in Edinburgh, staying at The Howard. Would recommend this small, friendly hotel. Staff were all very helpful, room was really comfy, would definitely stay here again.

Duff room

Lovely people, lovely breakfast, lovely positioning, awful room. Stuck in 1984. 2 single mattresses pused together, faulty lamps with an actual sign on it saying 'faulty lamp, do not use'. Worse thing was a draft that we realised was a broken window payne that when pointed out was duct taped over. Room was generally damp and musty feeling.

Great hotel - real luxury

Went for my girlfriends birthday and stayed in the Heriot room. We used the hotel car park which was included in the price and was a real bonus. The room was very large and comfortable with a large bath and separate shower and luxury toiletries provided. I did think the shower head was almost too big for the shower space but it wasn't a major issue. The staff are excellent throughout being both friendly, professional and are obviously highly trained. Complimentary tea and coffee was available 24/7 as well as complimentary ironing, minor alterations. We enjoyed drinks in the well stocked bar and the delicious ala carte breakfast. In short, it was excellent.

Jag kommer gärna tillbaka!

Det var ett fint hotell och bra läge. En minikort promenad från centrum. Frukosten var helt fantastisk och det var så underbart att kunna på det inkört på en vagn när man vill äta på sitt rum. Det var väl egentligen det alldeles bästa med detta hotell! Lite lyxigare helt enkelt!

We had a overnight stay booked at the Howard to end our honeymoon. But for us it was unfortunately ruined. Had we known the Lovely fireplace that we paid a premium to enjoy had been disconnected. We would never have stayed here. They should probably update their website to avoid other people wasting the extra money.
