Fish Rock Retreat

Fish Rock Retreat is a very sweet cabin in Anchor Bay Village just north of Gualala. A short walk takes you to the trail to Anchor Bay beach, with free access for walk-ins. The village shops are about a block from the house and include the White Cap Cafe with great coffee drinks and treats; Anchor Bay Thai Kitchen with authentic dishes; and the Anchor Bay Store for almost anything you could need or want during your stay.

The main level welcomes you with a modern spacious kitchen with granite counters and stainless appliances. The open floor plan makes for an easy flow from kitchen, through living area and out to the deck. There is also the main bathroom with shower on this level. Enjoy the serenity of the redwoods on the deck, including a gas BBQ and fire pit.


Upstairs are the loft bed; and the main bedroom with a half-bath, and the ocean view. The main bedroom as well as living room have flat screen TVs with Firesticks to stream DirecTV, and access to many other apps. Unlimited WiFi is available. Bring your own account login for streaming apps.


The home is heated with electric space heaters and a pellet stove.

Dogs are accepted with additional fee $65 per dog, two maximum.

Maximum occupancy shall be 4 (four).

Maximum number of vehicles shall be 2 (two), parked in driveway.

Quiet hours must be observed between 10pm and 7am every day.

I do not recommend this property.
The stairs were broken and unsafe. Treads of significantly different depths and loose nosing-trim caused me to fall and hurt my wrist. I was nice about it and gave the owner a chance to acknowledge the situation, but they denied the problem existed at all, either not actually inspecting the unsafe condition or covering themselves by dismissing my concerns as inaccurate. Also, one of the bedrooms has no door, as it faces the stairs. You have to go through that room to get to the other room. Rather inconvenient for privacy and they don't mention it on the listing. This owner/manager does not deserve a good review from us at all.

Beautiful, quiet location.
Cute little place. Lots to love about it: It's in a very quiet neighborhood with woods on one side. Nice view of the ocean. It's a stand-alone cottage. Downsides: Cookware was in terrible shape. (Pots and pans were all heavily scratched teflon.) The one pan we used was quite dirty before we used it. Dishes were nice. No bbq tools except for tongs. Grill was filthy and rickety but functional The windows really needed a good washing. Overall, I'd give it a little less than 4.5. The location, setting and decorating were outstanding. If you go, bring any pots and pans you need and bbq tools.

Clean and comfortable
Nothing luxurious about the property, but it was well maintained and very comfortable. It would be an excellent place for day trips up and down the coast, though after a couple of days we found ourselves just sitting on the deck, looking at the ocean (well off in the distance, but still visible) and listening to the sea lions. Very accomodating property management.

Cozy, comfortable stay at Fish Rock in the forest
Our family enjoyed coming home to this warm, cozy cabin after fun days spent with nearby family. Even when the rain was pouring down, we all felt comfy and dry as we made meals in the clean kitchen and watched movies on the huge living room TV. The surrounding forest and neighborhood were beautiful. As the parents of teenagers we would’ve liked a bit more privacy, since sound traveled well through the home… but ultimately all of us were comfortable and enjoyed our stay. Walking down to the Anchor Bay market was quick and very convenient for buying necessities.

Wonderful Weekend Getaway
We were visiting Gualala to help out family with a wedding and the location was perfect. Very close to everything but of course you still feel like you’re a million miles away from a city. Check-in was easy, great communication with the host and the place was clean and comfortable. Would definitely visit again.

Great Stay at Fish Rock Retreat
Came here for an extended weekend getaway & was not disappointed. The cabin was just as listed. Everything clean, comfortable, and cozy. It was centrally located for us to get to Gualala as well as Point Arena. We enjoyed the spectacular sunset from the upstairs deck overlooking Anchor Bay. Just know the bathroom upstairs is a half-bath connected to the main bedroom. The second bedroom is actually a loft at the top of the stairs right next to the main bedroom. The full bath is on the main floor with a single person stand up shower. I would definitely stay here again.
