Excellent property; lovely views; delightful owner

Highly recommend this home. Situated in an isolated, quiet area of the island, but easy driving distance to all our destinations. We hope to visit again!

        3/5

          Waipio Valley Home

The view is top notch and the small house is comfortable. But we agree with a previous reviewer that the lack of curtains separating the master bedroom from the living room limits the common usable space. We resorted to hanging up beach towels over the bedroom glass wall to provide more privacy. We shared the house with another couple with whom we have traveled extensively and none of us are “reserved,” but it is impossible to sleep under the current design if the couple in the master bedroom wish to retire early and the other couple remain in the living room. It is also a little small for four adults planning on longer stays. We were there 12 nights. The second bedroom and bathroom were on the small side for the couple we shared with. It would not have been an issue, perhaps, with a shorter stay, or for a couple with young children. The owner was positively responsive to us checking-in a few hours early, which was appreciated, and when local work resulted in the water being turned-off for several hours. However, the house was not “deeply-cleaned,” as she described. The couple in the smaller bedroom complained of dust (and a broken window blind), and felt the room had been recently used for storage and not deeply cleaned. We appreciate refrigerated food and pantry items left for use, but the refrigerator shelves could have used a good wipe down. The kitchen was well-kitted out for all the cooking we did - again, the view! - but the portable grill is too tiny to bother with, and the gas canister was empty. Lastly, in the very comprehensive list of house rules and area attractions, might we suggest a better description of the transfer station location. The street name changes as it turns up the road to the highway, which is initially confusing as there is no signage indicating it’s whereabouts.

          5/5 Excellent

Views are amazing and the house is great!

We loved this house and the location was beautiful. First time on this part of the island and we highly recommend. Comfortable home to hang out in the evening and on the deck in the morning for breakfast. It was great to walk down the road to go into the Valley and to the little shop down road. We went to movie in the 1927 threatre. Very fun 😊. Would return in a minute.

            4/5 Good

A nice get away place if you want to be away from the main places

Honokaa is a great little town and the house is further along the road out of town right near the Waimea lookout. That road is actually really busy with tourists, but we had no issues with being blocked in to the driveway. We liked the view and access to a decent sized kitchen and many amenities. The living room is comfortable. Many tv channels. Do check the sliding doors as one doesn’t lock and one is tricky; use the provided bars anytime you leave the house. I had trouble sleeping but I’m noise and light sensitive. The outer automatic lights go off when big leaves wave in the wind or when cats or whatever go by. If you’re in the area to do the hike then you can’t get a much better location. We enjoyed Gramma’s Kitchen and il Mondo in Honokaa and even went to the local theatre which was worth seeing. They show two recent movies on Friday, Sat, and Sun.
