"Very spacious, lovely modern decor, so you get both a lovely 5 star stay but being able to enjoy the old town once you step out. Staff are friendly, able to tell you what are open for the night on a map (as it was a public holiday when we went). The breakfast is also worth it (just 1000yen pp?), not the type with luxurious ingredients but it was all nicely laid out and a very comfy cafe which you can easily spend half a morning there."

Spa & Resort HOTEL SOLAGE OITA・HIJI Beppuwan"Beautiful onsen hotel. The only problem was their name says they are in Oijo but the are actually 50 kilometers away and the taxi ride wa 10,000 yen. You need to take a local train to Hiji and a taxi from there for 2000 yen. "
