If you're looking for a traditional vintage cottage holiday in Devon, a fabulous family summer holiday or a romantic weekend break away with all the luxuries of home, then Mulberry, is the perfect choice for you. Our peaceful holiday cottage is part of the original Georgian house within the Colmer Estate. Located in the former manor house, Mulberry is a gorgeous two bedroom mews holiday cottage, set in the heart of the sought after South Hams. Our cottage offers lots of traditional vintage character and charm; tastefully decorated to a high standard in a boutique style that offers all the comforts of home. The large and comfy lounge features 2 leather 3 seater settees, large flat screen TV, DVD and stereo. There is also an excellent vintage classic book collection for your perusal. The dining area has a large solid wood table with six chairs. The separate kitchen is fully equipped with electric cooker, microwave, dishwasher, fridge and freezer, washing machine. The large staircase leads to a well-appointed landing with 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. The master bedroom has a double bed, large double mirrored wardrobes , there's also a comfortable armchair for you to relax/read quietly. The second bedroom has 2 single beds, and plenty of fitted wardrobe space. The large bathroom features twin his and hers sinks for your convenience, a full size bath, with shower attachment, and overhead electric shower. It has a large towel rail and is fully equipped to a high standard.

Mulberry offers a wealth of sporting and leisure facilities which are free and exclusively for the use of Colmer Guests. Set in 28 acres of private grounds, with stunning walks and panoramic countryside views. The grounds are a mixture of wild flower meadows with babbling brooks, woodland and grassed areas, here you can find a wealth of wildlife such as foxes, badgers, rabbits, deer as well as a large variety of bird life, including woodcocks, pheasants, heron, and don't forget the moor hens and mallards on the lake. You can also experience the awe-inspiring spectacle of the Gunnera Walkway - a fabulous plantation of Giant Brazilian Rhubarb plants.

Residents can enjoy the large outdoor pool (heated during summer months) and an all year round heated indoor pool. The Fitness room, located above the indoor pool, has a cross trainer, exercise bicycle, rowing machine and treadmill. Set amongst beautiful surroundings you will find a full size all weather tennis court for your enjoyment, Table Tennis is also available to play too. Try coarse fishing on the private lake, (adults require a rod license available from local post office). Alternatively, get away from it all and picnic, read, relax, or just feed the ducks at this idyllic spot. The walled garden houses play equipment for children, with a large lawned area for ball games and boules and a wooden play room with table football and games.

If you enjoy a game of Golf courses nearby are Bigbury, Dartmouth, Wrangton and Thurlstone.

Mulberry is ideally located for great places to visit nearby, the towns and villages of Salcombe, Kingsbridge, Totnes, Dartmouth and Plymouth are all close at hand. Just 5 minutes away by car is the charming ancient market town of Modbury, this pretty little town has an ecletic mix of shops, pubs/eateries, and places to grab a coffee, cake or devonshire pasty! There's even a Chinese or Indian Take away who deliver if you don't feel like cooking but fancy a night in. Just a short walk away is the award winning gastro pub, The California Country Inn, which hosts great local beers and produce. California Cross, again, 5 minutes walk away has a local spar shop at the garage, where you can pick up any essential groceries.

The beautiful Dartmoor National Park and Dartmoor ponies are just 10 miles away, and the attractions of The River Dart Country Park and The Miniature Pony Centre are a must for all the family. You are spoilt for choice for nearby local attractions, the theme parks of Woodlands, and Pennywell are excellent places for a great family day out

Here you can spend time exploring and enjoy the wide selection of craft shops, art galleries etc. September sees the Agatha Christie Festival and there are a number of themed events planned in the area. The Dartmouth Food Festival in October is well worth a visit and a great opportunity to taste a selection of local produce - you could even pick up some tips from renowned chefs in one of their cookery demonstrations. Autumn is a great time of year for walking too and is the best season to see migrating birds. There's a good chance of some windy weather at this time of year and local beaches are good for surfing, windsurfing or kite flying - why not try surf school during the half term holidays? Dartmoor is a lovely place to visit and is only a short drive away. In the autumn you can enjoy the changing colour of this beautiful landscape - great for the budding artist or photographer.

The Colmer Estate is itself home to a variety of wildlife including woodcocks, pheasants, foxes, badgers, rabbits and deer. The meadow and lake attract a variety of butterflies, dragonflies and birds including moorhens and mallards.
California Cross is just a five minutes' walk away with its local shops, pub and award-winning restaurant. The English Riviera is also a fabulous location for literary lovers to soak up the art deco atmosphere that inspired so many Agatha Christie novels.
The South Hams is a fabulous choice for a family holiday in Devon. It is famous for its beautiful coastline, unspoilt Devon countryside, rugged moorland and has some of the finest sandy beaches suitable for a range of water sports or just sunbathing and crabbing. The nearby award-winning beaches at Bigbury-on-Sea, Challaborough and Bantham offer excellent facilities. There are lifeguards on duty during the summer months making the area an great choice for a Devon family holiday.

Dartmoor National Park is a stunning haven for nature lovers and The Eden Project, a little further afield, is well worth a visit.

Totnes, Dartmouth, Kingsbridge and Salcombe all offer fabulous shopping opportunities and farmers' markets - a far cry from the chain stores on your average high street.

The South Hams is great for a holiday at any time of year with a whole range of sports and leisure activities including sailing, boat trips, surfing, walking, horse riding, fishing and golf. There are numerous golf courses locally including Bigbury Golf Club and the Dartmouth Golf and Country Club.

Great Stay
We really enjoyed our stay. The photos don’t do it justice. The property was lovely and clean on arrival. And welcoming. They have decorated it really well with lovely antique touches. The sofas were lovely and comfortable and blankets and towels for the dog were a great touch. The layout of the place was great as well. The grounds were beautiful for walking the dog. The pool was fabulous and was easy to book in with lots of slots available. And great parking.

Just Perfect (despite the wet weather!)
Mulberry Cottage is one of the most delightful places that we have stayed in. Part of an old Victorian country house on a beautiful wooded estate, the cottage is obviously greatly loved by the owners, Ian and Jackqui. They have cretaed a home from home, with the most delightful antiques, knick-knacks and comfy home furnishings. Though quite compact, no space is wasted and it feels quite opulent! The kitchen is modern and beautifully presented and the bathroom has a very grand feel with its double sink. However, our favourite part of the cottage was the staircase, decked with some most unusual old antique pieces! A lot of thought was put into making our stay as comfortable as possible, from the amazing collection of games and sports equipment to the throws and blankets for our dog. There are some lovely walks on the estate and we made good use of the indoor swimming pool and the tennis court. Our two teenage children loved the place and were very appreciative of the two Easter Eggs that were left for them. Finally, thanks to Ian and Jackqui for changing our booking at such short notice. We don't usually return to places that we have already stayed at, but we may just make an exception for Mulberry Cottage!

A home from home
From the moment I saw the pictures on Vrbo I stopped looking for anywhere else . It did not disappoint in any way . The house is eclectically furnished and each time you turned a corner there was something new to see. . We were lucky with the weather and so recommendations to see and do are : California Inn at the crossroads for fish and chips a lovely pub Kingsbridge a pretty town with the supermarkets and lots of independent eateries and shops Cycling through Plumridge woods near Plymouth Dartmouth for catching either car Ferry or passenger ferry to either Carltone Fishacre or Greenway both beautiful national trust properties with wonderful gardens Dartmouth is beautiful in itself and deserves a look Totnes and Brixham should be visited in our opinion Finally do have a cuppa and piece of cake at the local farm shop . We loved the property and will be recommending to friends and family . Thank you Ian and Jackie

Mulberry is an absolutely delightful property! Exceedingly comfy, cosy and full of character. Walking in the Colmer Estate was great for our dog - early morning and evening walks from the door was such a bonus. Bertie appreciated the Mulberry dog throws too! The kitchen is well-equipped (better than our home!) with everything we needed plus more! The living room was spacious and warm - carpets and rugs made it very cosy and the dining table is big enough for a banquet! Going upstairs is a real treat as on the ‘little landing’ there is a mass of quirky timepieces and interesting ‘stuff’. Upstairs the bedrooms are well proportioned and full of storage space and the bathroom is fab! The area is perfect for trips to Dartmoor, South Devon towns and beaches, Plymouth and so much more. The Spar shop up the road is incredibly well-stocked. We had great communication with the owners so arranging our trip was stress-free. Thank you Jacqui and Ian

Overall we enjoyed our stay
Overall we had a pleasant stay. The place was very clean and we were given complimentary coffee/tea/snacks. Unfortunately there was no safe outdoor area for our dog such as a gated front yard. Also, the indoor pool was only available to one family at a time in half hour slots - lots of people booked their slots several days in advance, so on the day we arrived there were only a couple of slots left open for the following days. The rooms were also quite dark even with the lights on and curtains open. Otherwise we enjoyed our stay.

We loved our stay at Mulberry, the accomodation was perfect for a family of four. The hosts have very thoughtfully equipped the place with board games/beach accessories, which was lovely for the kids. The pools were amazing, especially the outside pool. Highly recommended, hosts were awesome!

We brought our 6 year old grandson and had a wonderful stay. The indoor pool is a great facility and we made the most of it. Sadly , the weather didn’t allow for more than one visit to the outdoor pool. The grounds are really lovely. The cottage is really well equipped and has a lovely feel. Would definitely visit again.
