Beautiful location!!
We enjoyed our time here and the location and view truly cannot be beat! To address some items mentioned in others reviews: When we got there there was a musty smell, as others have mentioned, but it did get better over our time there. The heat was off and it was extremely cold on our arrival, and I feel like living there and keeping it warmed up helped the situation. There is a small fishing operation off shore (3 rings) but in our opinion it doesn’t detract at all from the ambiance. It is really beautiful and we actually enjoyed seeing the activity. You do have to pay as you go for electric online. Not ideal, but also not a problem. We found it easy to figure out and spent €50 for our four day stay. We did laundry and were fairly liberal with the heat so it could have been less. All in all we enjoyed with our time here and got to know the neighbors who were super nice. It was a special experience and we will look back on it fondly. I addressed those few items because I remember reading about them in the reviews before we booked and appreciated when others spoke to those things impartially.

Overall we really enjoyed our stay, house was very clean and had all the amenities needed for our week long stay. There was an unexpected cost for electricity, which I was not aware of before booking. Place would also benefit from dehumidifier due to location close to water.

Lovely location
The location on the waters edge is enchanting and it's a quaint, relaxed house. Jeanne, the owner, was easy to communicate with, and was very understanding of a change we had to make in our schedule. Also, the people who are the "next door" neighbors are very kind and helpful. And there is a nice restaurant a short drive away.

A gem of a property
A wonderful property! The house is lovely and exactly as described and pictured. It has everything one could possibly need. Jeanne is a super host - she responds rapidly, is absolutely dependable, very friendly and helpful. Spectacular area with very friendly people. Great property to relax, spend time on the small beach (to which one has direct access from the garden) and as a base from which to explore the surrounding area. The garden is also a treat! We love this property! Thank you Jeanne!

Unique stay
In all of my years of travel, this ranks as the most unique stay. We stayed 2 weeks, the beauty of the area is stunning- 5-star view from the living room and just about every room in the house has stunning views with large picture windows. Surrounded by well-maintained beautiful landscaping. It's also very private, as you have your own separate gate to enter the property. The back entrance has a nook that came in very handy, as it can get really windy and it is a perfect place to hang out and block the wind. The living room is the highlight of the property with the most stunning views. There is a TV there and a fireplace with plenty of chairs to sit around in and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee. it's worth noting that there is a VCR but it is not working. I would suggest bringing a device to stream Netflix, etc though you do have a handful of local channels. The kitchen does have a dishwasher and just about anything you can. think of that you might need to cook meals, including microwave, stove and burner top. It's packed with cookware, glasses, etc. The bathroom was adequate and has a jet tub (we never used it) and a stand-up shower. all 3 bedrooms had acceptable beds in them, though we only used 2 of the 3 bedrooms, the beds were pretty comfortable. We found the food options to be outstanding in the area and I highly recommend, (the best fish and chips we've had in all of Europe too, ordering any seafood you desire from) O' Flaherty's Connemara Seafood Chowder. His restaurant was pick up only when we were there but it is only about 15 minutes from the house. He also offers pick up or delivery of fresh lobster, scallops, prawns, a variety of fish, and much more caught locally for an insanely fair price, large lobster tails were only 12 Euros for example. About 7 minutes from the house is the Glynsk House. This quickly turned into our favorite place to dine in during our stay. We did find that the place was not as clean as we expected it but that's really my only complaint. The place is set up to pay for your own electricity and we spend about $120 Euros for the 2 weeks, hardly running the heater at all but doing laundry and hang drying the clothes. I would suggest some dehumidifiers if moisture bothers you, as it can get damp inside due to being so close to the water. Definitely would recommend and loved the area, plenty to do around you within 30-60 minute drive. So much more to say but out of characters to use :)

Fantastic location with stunning views in a lovely part of Connemara.
Curlews has a fantastic location with amazing views of sea and the mountains. Wonderful beaches nearby. The property is cozy and we really enjoyed our stay. The house, while very homely, could do with a little upgrading. For example, the initial impression on arrival - when you open the door to the hall - you see a dirty carpet and an untidy hall. This could be an amazing place with a little bit of modernization ( rusty dish rack in kitchen, new carpet in twin bedroom as the current one is very stained, new floor covering in hall etc )Also, we found a sock under a rug in the big bedroom, Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would be happy to stay again.. Hopefully you will attend to these few details.

We LOVED our stay in this home. It was exactly what we imagined and more. We loved the stunning views....sunrise to sunset. Mary was amazing (thank you for the clothes pins). This is a home for those looking to immerse themselves in the simple Irish lifestyle. The cozy fires in the evenings were perfect. Our girls spent an entire day on the beach searching for seashells, bike riding and taking awesome pictures.

No thanks
Nothing was as advertised. We left after one night because the house was unbearable. We would have been charged for heat, electricity and hot water. And it was cold in Connemara. There was also a salmon fishery in direct view of the windows, which is not in any of the photos. Nor is the fireplace wrapped in paper bags shown in any photo. The house was not cozy, it was greasy. This house needs a great deal of help. It smells from disuse.

A special and unique Connemara experience right on the sea
Really enjoyed the week in your charming cottage, it was just what we like, peaceful relaxing and full of character I would not change a thing . My nephew used the kayak, dogs had a great time and I brought my boat ,used the nearby slipway and went to sea most days , so all thoroughly enjoyable. Mary is absolutely delightful and we especially appreciated your lovely natural garden. We may be back next year. Many thanks Christopher Markes

House needs help
A lovely spot, but the house is not, by any means, in the shape to be let. The refrigerator is on 24/7, but our food spoiled. It doesn't chill. The clothes washer is so noisy, you can't be in the house when it runs. The dryer door is broken and won't stay shut, so the dryer is not usable. A burner on the stove (left/rear) is broken and unusable. The dishwasher didn't clean the dishes. There's no couch in the sitting room. The hot 'cold faucets in the bath basin were reversed: hot came out cold, cold came out hot. I took them apart and reversed the colors on the faucets. The lamp in the bedroom had a paper shade that was deteriorated, fell apart, and the metal frame was rusted and broken. The shower faucet kept falling off and almost broke my toe. The tub was incapable of being filled with hot water - the water was insufficient and ran out before the tub was hardly filled, unless you were a duck. The woman who brought us to the house told us we'd have to pay for heating the house!!!! In all the years I've done self-catering, I've never had a surcharge added for heating the house. Surely, that's part of the charge for the use of the house., which, for off season was quite dear - EU87 a night! This is a case of an owner squeezing out every penny while not being willing to update the services. The quality of accommodations offered in Ireland since it joined the EU has vastly improved, but I guess there are holdouts who take advantage of unsuspecting tourists and ruin the reputation of what is given in exchange for payment. It would be a lovely offering if the owner was willing to invest in updating her property.

Peaceful, beautiful location.
We loved staying at Curlews and were so sorry to have to leave. It was great as a base for touring the area and a joy to return to in the evening. Our closest "neighbor" was a heron, and we enjoyed watching the fishing boats pass as they went about their work. Our other neighbors - the human ones - could not have been more friendly and helpful, though we did not see them often. They were lovely, just as one can expect when in Ireland. The house itself was cozy and comfortable. We had fires in the evening and the timer for the radiators was set just right so that the house was nice and warm each morning when we got up. When we first got there, there was a slight musty smell due to the place being closed and unused for a time, and obviously because of it's proximity to the sea. Our own home, which sits close to the Columbia River and the ocean nearby, does exactly the same thing so it didn't bother us a bit. Also this: we read in another review the complaint/suggestion that the owner should put a sofa or couch in the living room in place of the chairs as they are now to which we say, "Please Don't!" We're unsure how you'd place a couch without impeding the view, and the arrangement as it is couldn't be more perfect for looking out to the sea while having a cup of tea and a piece of brown bread and marmalade. We would recommend this cottage to anyone.
