Our adventure to BIG MEADOW LODGE

Posted Nov 5, 2016
Location: Beautiful mountains, leaves amazing. Skyland restaurant is amazing, turkey dinner so yummy and trout dinner wonderful.
The main lodge is quite beautiful, the mountains, hills around lodge are breath taking, we had deer right outside our door. I DO NOT THINK ROOM HAS EVER BEEN CLEANED, cob webs every where, THAT IS IF YOU COULS SEE THEM. Two lamps and one overhead light, with 20 WATT BULBS, maybe 10 watt, I am not kidding, we moved the dresser lamp over to join the night stand lamp so I could read my bible before going to sleep. Even with two lamps together still not enough light, we gave up and went to bed. We were given the smallest room they had (this is not there fault, they said you guys dealt with that) NO TV, which we did not know. Really nothing, no hair dryer, NONE OF THE amenities advertised. Waited 35 minutes in restaurant before anyone came to take our order of offer coffee. Breakfast food okay.

Not disabled friendly as promised

Posted Nov 2, 2016
Location: Mountain views were great on the overlooks but colors were a bit dissappointing. There is little else I can say.
I told them I was disabled and being disabled I ask for a room in the Main Lodge. When I got there I was put in an outlying building with NO disabled appropriate access or accommodations as promised. The room, especially the bathroom was dirty & mattress was uncomfortable. Food was terrible and overpriced. The heater struggled to keep the room barely warm.

Great location on Skyline Dr

Posted Sep 20, 2016
Pros: Location, decor, restaurant and bar
Cons: There shouldn't be a room where we were
Location: skyline dr
Hotel is in great location and liked room and everything about it. Until we tried to sleep. Our room--24--was right above a staff entrance, and they constantly came in and out and door slammed every time, didn't stop until about 11:30 pm, and started back up about 6 am. Ruined our experience.

Go for the hikes

Posted Sep 14, 2016
The only good reason to stay at big Meadows is for the beautiful hiking trails in the park. They warn you the rooms are not well insulated, however being able to follow every conversation your neighbours is ridiculous. The beds are bumpy and the shower is awful, it is a water savingsshower but is saves so much water that it takes trice as long to wash all the soap of your body. Furthermore don't eat at the restaurant, it is the worst meal I've ever had! The pizzas you can get at the tap are much better!

Rustic room from 1939 and in good condition. I did not expect more and enjoyed the timelessness of the setting.

seasonal hotel

Pros: Location
Cons: Install safety bars or handles in bathroom
Location: Terrific for nature lovers.
Perfect mountain retreat, rustic room, no tv, no tel., no wifi, no cellphone signal. Free internet is available at the Lodge. Skyline Drive is one of our favorite destination in Summer.

Old & outdated facility

Posted Aug 6, 2016
Pros: Not much
Cons: Needs renovated and modernized
Location: Skyline Drive, hiking trails, caverns, scenic views
The rooms are old and in need of repair. There was no tv or microwave. The rooms were dark & the lighting was poor. I cannot recommend this place.

Great Hotel for Peace and Quiet

Posted Aug 1, 2016
Pros: quiet, nature setting, views, friendly staff
Cons: WiFi to the room could be stronger.
Location: Luray Caverns in Luray are a must-see. Several trails for hiking at various altitudes.
My Daughter and I had a very relaxing 2 days at Big Meadows. The only negative is the WiFi is not strong enough in the room to stream movies or music. We definitely enjoyed the quiet and nature setting. We saw a baby black bear and several dear right outside of our cabin. It was a wonderful experience.
