The old gold mining town Barberton, in Mpumalanga, South Africa, has lots of picturesque colonial buildings. It is worth a stop for a few days, when/if you are in the area. It is nicer and more fun than nearby Neilspruit.

"The views are incredible, the rooms are clean and the beds are pretty comfortable. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The only problem was the last bit of the road leading up into the resort that is steep and aren’t in good condition, our car wasn’t going uphill but we found a very good man that helped us. Overall our stay was good."

"Only stayed one night and enjoyed it thoroughly. They accommodated a last-minute request for dinner, which was very tasty and delivered to my room. Breakfast was very good as well. The staff was very friendly and responsive, and they have a very sweet dog (Mango) whose visits made the stay even more "
