Be really careful if you are a family...
Our stay was disappointing overall. We were staying in the Family Room, but were not advised when booking that on our second night immediately below that room would be a rock band, performing until 10:30pm. Immediately below the Family Room!?!?!? The floor was literally shaking, which left us with 3 distressed children. A really appalling situation. On top of that, after a disappointing dinner on the first evening (our order was lost by the kitchen, so our food took 90 minutes to arrive, and the steaks were poor quality too), at breakfast time we found that the milk in the jug for the cereal was sour, and the apple juice had gone off (started to ferment/go fizzy) too. We won't return.

Our stay was a little shadowed by mould in the shower which you could smell, consequently neither of us used the shower which isnt ideal , ordinarily we might have spoken up but being there only 6 rooms presumed there would be no option to move, bit of a shame as this is a nice country pub, nice staff, nice food ,we stayed in room 3 for reference, unfortunately we would not return:(

Very friendly, nothing too much trouble. Good pub food. As we were leaving early in the morning, missing breakfast, they made us all a packed lunch. Happy for camper vans to stay free of charge in the car park, if you have last minute additions to your group travel plans.

Excellent!!
Lovely restaurant & bar we have been here a few times for food which is always lovely , we decided to book in and stay for a night. Staff were very accommodating and helpful and went above and beyond for us. Only slight issue was the room was a little small and would have been great if it had a bath , but never the less we had a lovely stay it was worth the money.

Northern gem!
Stayed one night in a great room. Really difficult to find a place that will have beds for 2 adults and 3 children in one room, but this was great, and space to move around in too. Only niggle was the mattress on the double bed has seen better days 😐. Great people, really lovely food and we will be back!

Communication spoils a very nice place
The place is well positioned in beautiful countryside but both telephone and internet connections are extremely limited. If you’re on vacation that’s no issue but if on business like myself it is a problem.

Beautiful location excellent value for money
Just spent a weekend in Northumberland and stopped at this gem in the countryside with my mum. The pub was spotless and all the staff were really friendly and very helpful. We had a twin room with an ensuite and kitchen facilities. Tea and coffee were provided, also a hairdryer and iron. They had thought of everything. The kitchen staff had recently took over and the food was amazing, freshly cooked, presented beautifully and very large portions! I would highly recommend this for a comfortable stay with really friendly people

Interesting stay
Has to walk over a flat roof and down a fire escape after hours as the pub closed at 11pm The room was quaint clean and tidy. One grumble was that the toilet could do with some bleach as it was discoloured. The staff were friendly and the breakfast was nice in the restaurant

It’s two of everything 😄 Had a bar meal in the evening which was very nice Whole place is very nicely decorated and maintained Would happily stay again if we’re that way .

Not an ideal break.
If you are looking for a quiet stay out in the country then look somewhere else. We arrived for 2 nights and as the rooms are directly above the bar with an Irish band playing the first night then the apologies on arrival for a loud evening were well founded. Even on the second evening the general hubbub from the bar affected any opportunity of an early night. Be prepared for a very limited breakfast. Firstly they had no decaffeinated coffee so I had to provide my own!! There is no fruit either as a fruit salad, whole fruit or tinned. The full English was decided by the 'chef' which didn't include either tomatoes or beans but did include hash browns which were conspicuous by there absence on the second day. No option of toast - 2 slices of white appear on your plate. No asking if you want one or two eggs or even how you would like them done - you get one fried egg!! The biggest issue is the cleanliness or more accurately the lack of it. The room needed a decent hoover, the breakfast drinking glasses needed washing to remove lipstick marks, the crockery needed further washing, the bins in the room had no bags so were stained with ??, the shower was mouldy and the bathroom extractor fan seriously struggled to remove steam as it was so caked with dust. There has to be some good in everything and the young girl who seems to do most jobs including cleaning and cooking breakfast is really pleasant and chatted away - location is brilliant but issues mean you don't de-stress!

A visit of 2 halves
2 days before arrival I called to ask about children's menu as my youngest is extremely fussy eater. They very kindly offered to buy my sons favourite in which we thought was very kind and was much appreciated It was a big relief for us!. On arrival we (myself, hubby and 6 &9 year old boys) were shattered, we'd had a very busy day but when went to the bar to check in there was DJ setting up...we were then informed that there was a party on that evening and unfortunately our room was right above him...I would certainly have liked to have known this prior to arrival, possibly the 2 days before when I spoke to the landlady, especially having young children. As it turned out it didn't bother the littlest but my eldest couldn't settle. Our evening meal was lovely, compliments to the chef. However, it would've been nice to have had a table reserved in the restaurant instead in the pub which was packed to the rafters due the party. We slept well once t he music stopped. Breakfast had to be ordered the night before, no issue, but having ordered so much in advance I was expecting a nice, full english...in stead, what I got was 2 x bacon, 2 x sausage, fried egg and toast, only the toast was edible...It's been a great shame, it could've been a different stay without the party on downstairs.

The staff were very welcoming and friendly but the bedroom/ bathroom needs some attentions. There was no milk in room and only decaf. tea. The place in general is a bit 'tired'. Would think twice before going back.

A very tired, typical pub trying to make some extra income through B&B. The carpets were in need of a good clean. Shower was blocked. General decor shabby. Need I say more .... but the Manager, Paul was trying his best. Didn't even have any coffee for breakfast - apparently they had run out

Misleading Description
The description of "guest house" misleading as actually rooms over a pub. I arrived just as pub was opening on a Friday lunchtime, there were 3 female staff behind the bar but no customers. As I walked in all three staff decided to go in to a back room leaving me alone. I thought this odd, so went out to my car to collect a bag and returned. This time a staff member acknowledged me and I gave her my name to check in. She gave me a key and showed me to the room. This was a spacious family room which was clean and bright albeit the carpet had seemed better days and was rather grubby. She advised that if we wanted to access the room when the pub was closed we would have to use a door which meant crossing a flat roof and using the fire escape stairs. Windows in our room opened directly on to this flat roof which concerned me about security. The wifi didn't work and staff said they had reported this to senior management who hadn't done anything about it. There are no other place to eat in the local area so decided to have an expensive (£6.95) ham & cheese toasty for lunch in the seedy bar area. Drove out and had dinner elsewhere. In the morning couldn't get the shower to work, although the house keeper sorted this. Breakfast was a scummy couple of poached eggs on toast which had two pats of butter which had failed to soften on the luke warm slices. My wife had a slightly better fried breakfast. Although we had booked for two nights left after the first night.

Lovely B&B in Northumberland.
Lovely B&B in the middle of the country in Northumberland. Very quite with rolling hills and a great pub attached with real local character. Decent food and lively community. Rooms were clean and the location was great as a launching pad for local tourist sites!

Noise
Noise was a problem as the rooms are above a pub bar (not so much customers but more the music on loud until midnight on a Sunday night). Room was clean and nicely done, staff were friendly enough. Also cooked breakfast was over done (looked like it had been cooked and left in the oven to keep warm for too long!).

Too expensive for standard of room
We arrived late so think we were given the last room! We booked a double and were given a single with beds that didn't even match! The shower was best bit of the room, except for the mould around the bath. There were cobwebs, chipped paint, oil leaking down the door from the door hinge, a tv that only had BBC channels initially then when we asked them to fix it, we had no tv channels, extractor fan that was left on all night outside our window and two breakfast bar chairs but no breakfast bar! Julie was very helpful but unable to resolve any of our problems. My advice on booking, ask for any room but no 1! Although, apart from the reviews, I've no reason to think the others were any better. The restaurant was lovely and the views from it were amazing, food was good but warm rather than hot and no peppermint tea! I'd definitely book a meal in the restaurant again and visit the bar but don't think I'd waste £97 on a room!

Arrived mid afternoon and from a distance the guest house looked very impressive but closer examination showed it was in need of remedial work and attention. Inside the bar area and bedroom required the same. Clearly this has been a lovely place in the past and could easily recover its former glory.

Nice, welcoming pub
The pub and food is lovely. Really busy which surprised me considering it seems like it's in the middle of nowhere! Downsides were that our room was directly above the bar so it was quite noisy - not a problem if you're not planning on sleeping till late anyway but we had to get an early night so wasn't great. The other more serious point is that I felt the window latch in our room wasn't secure enough. Our 3 year old managed to open it which give me the fright of my life. The window is at knee height so she could easily have lent out. Would suggest management look to fix this immediately. Aside from this, lovely room and nice staff.
