The floor plan was great for large families. The kitchen needs to be upgraded appliance-wise; another oven would be a huge benefit in a house this size. I just feel it could have been a bit cleaner, specifically the air returns

Lazy Lizard

Overall a great stay, access to the beach and ocean view was amazing. The location can’t be beat. Pool table was in tough shape which was a disappointment. Overall would stay again.

Great Location and Flexible Space

Lovely quiet beach home

First time at the OBX, family of 6 adults. Loved this place, amazing location. Pool was way too cold to use but hot tub was lovely and warm ❤️ Our tiny pups were in heaven, lots of beautiful beach walks and long runs ( 5k every morning) on the pavement that runs along the front of the house. There were a couple of issues (house keeping) but they were resolved almost immediately with instant communication with the rental company. Super friendly town, we shall be back 😍

Overall lovely stay

The Lazy Lizard was an overall lovely stay for our family (17 people). The location was central to anything needed, the beach access was perfect, and you can’t beat a fire pit. There is some room for improvement in general cleanliness (rug stains, etc.), modernization (out of date furnitures in all bedrooms make it feel dated, and communication with the agency was poor. The only true downside was for those who want to rest while others ‘play’ as the noise travels from the game room area all the way to the 3rd floor.

Great house and location!

Property manager was responsive to any questions we had while on the trip to make sure our stay was great. Property was great and as advertised. Heated pool, hot tub, direct beach access. Plus the house was walkable to multiple bars, restaurants, and groceries which made the weekend even better. Property was actually ready ahead of schedule but due to a tech issue we couldn't get in until right at scheduled check-in time. All in all next time we're back in OBX we'd definitely look at coming back!

Loved the Lizard!

Also, with the pool and right on the ocean you don't ever really need to leave! The house has all the amenities you need; plenty of bedrooms & bathrooms, double washer & dryer, dishwasher, grills etc.. It is a quirky 80's decor but it is a fun place to vacation.

Beach view and access superlative. House is spacious and perfect for large family. Kitchen supplies need updating. It's the little things that make a difference. Almost every coffee mug is identical white - not ideal for 8 adults to tell apart. Too much mismatched kitchen supplies for my taste and no storage containers. The house was wonderful, the kitchen merely adequate. Some basic maintenance needed. Chairs repaired, etc. But overall, a WONDERFUL vacation!

Great house, mediocre management

Overall, we thought the house was great, but had some frustrations with the management company.The house was spacious and wonderful for a large family reunion with multiple rooms with their own bathrooms, and good sized beds for a comfortable stay. Having our own pool and being able to walk right onto the beach was very nice with little kids. The pool was nicely maintained.The volleyball court was in poor condition to the point that we stopped playing on it.Unfortunately, we found the management company to be a large company with less care for individual properties and experiences. While there was a lot of automated communication for contract-signing and check-in, individual communication to address specific questions or issues was a bit slower and less helpful. They were cheap in the products & services provided at the house (e.g. 1 bathing towel per person, 1 paper towel roll left in kitchen). There were several contradictions in what was stated in listing or contract and what they actually provide for this property. For example, the rental agreement stated, check-in time of 4pm - 6pm (with latter time seeming late to charge a full day stay) but indicated that earlier check-in could be requested for a fee. I reached out to the company to ask about paying for earlier check-in. I did not hear back for over a week. I was then told that this property couldn't accommodate earlier check-in. While this seems a small frustration, it exemplifies our mediocre interactions.

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The house was the right size and location for our large group and 2 pets. The house is in need of a good bit of TLC. Several things were broken (advised the rental company, they came and noted they would be fixed in 24-48 hours and we never heard from them again). It could be that it's the end of the season and the house had been well used all summer but, given we paid full price for "shoulder season", we expected more. Several windows were in disrepair, broken tile, dryers took hours to finish a load and the AC never got the house below 75 degrees.

Family Christmas getaway

It was very nice of the owners to change the rental days from the normal Saturday to Saturday to Friday to Friday to accommodate our travel plans. Over all the property had plenty of room for all 18 of us and our 2 dogs. Having the beach as your backyard was awesome.... great for the family kick ball game! The home was clean. One of the bunk beds don’t get sheets put on it, but not a big deal we didn’t need that bed. The property could use a little love.... the drawers in the frig were broken... they still were able to be used. They had done some nice improvement to the pool deck area, but that meant there was no Enclosed dog area on the side of the home as seen in pictures. The location of the house was good , close to many things. We loved the sunsets at Jockey Ridge!

The Lazy Lizard was tired.......

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We were there at the very end of the season. Cleaning was average at best, really in need of a thorough spring clean. The house was showing quite a bit of wear and tear, but again, it was end of season. My biggest disappointment was the pool. I had contacted the rental company a week prior to arrival time to remind them we had paid to have pool heated, and would they please follow up with that, as a heated pool was a big thing for us. We got there and the pool was 60 degrees. They sent pool guy out Sun am, but it was not til late in the day Sunday that it was warm enough to use. Then after it was serviced mid week, the heater stopped working and we needed maintenance again. maintenance was very responsive, but we were 2 days out of 7 without the pool.

Great location, tired property

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Location and ocean view are great, and the pool and hot tub were in good condition. The house itself is tired and in need of updates. The beds were comfortable, but upholstered furniture is worn and, in the case of two living room seats, unstable. There is not a garbage disposal in the kitchen, which was surprising, but there are two dishwashers (though one tips due to not being fastened to the counter). The 3(!) outside showers are great, but some parts are missing, which limits some functionality. Some shower doors in bathrooms didn’t function correctly, and a number of bulbs were burned out. There was a broken chair on the pool deck (as well as some trash), and the one grill was missing the rack for charcoal, which made it ineffective. The house has a uline ice maker, which was nice to have, as a lot of rentals run low on ice. The house is closer to neighboring houses than in some other parts of the OBX, so the quality of the neighbors will affect your stay. The private beach access is a huge selling point, and it is just far enough from the public beach access points not to be crowded.

Beautiful But Disappointing

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Each year we take one trip with our extended family. This year we decided to try something new. We paid the full asking price for this rental, which is steep for our blue collar family, and stayed for a week in August, 2015. When we arrived the home didn't feel clean. It felt like a cheap hotel. The staff had not thoroughly cleaned our rental. The bedding was old. Several items did not work (dishwasher, remotes, ceiling fans, jets in tub and pool heater are among the items) We had repair people in and out of the rental while we were there. When we requested compensation for the long list of items that were wrong, the rental company could only offer to make good on our next stay. That would be wonderful, but my uncle who helped pay for the trip is suffering from prostate cancer and LGL leukemis and will not be able to make a repeat trip. Would it have been too much to compensate? The beach and surrounding area was great. We enjoyed touring the area, and we did appreciate the access to the beach from the home. We will never use this rental company again, or stay here. As a family we have been taught to make good on our wrongs. If they don't want to put the money into the home to repair and replace bedding and other items, then they should be willing to compensate. Thumbs Down On This One
