Country Retreat by Caverns, Natural Bridge, Zoo Safari, VMI, W&L, Blue Ridge PKW

Enjoy this private location tucked back in the woods but less than a mile from the Caverns, Natural Bridge, Zoo and Dinosaur Kingdom 2. This newly remodeled home has an open concept living space, fully equipped kitchen and a spacious bathroom. The decks on front and back invite to sit and relax with a good book, observe nature (wildlife is abundant!) or view the starry sky at night.

On this 4 acre lot are only 2 cottages so privacy and lots of space is ensured. There is plenty of space for your kids to play tag or to toss the ball for your pup. After a day of exploring our neighborhood attractions kick back by a campfire, play board games, read and soak up quality time with your loved ones. If lucky, you may even catch a glimpse of some of our abundant wildlife.

We aim to offer you a clean & comfortable cottage in a beautiful, serene setting where unforgettable memories are made with friends & family alike.
But please note:
****while we have cell service, we do not offer wi-fi, TV or internet. This is a fantastic opportunity to unplug, unwind, recharge and focus on family, friends, nature and simple joys.****

Downtown Lexington is a short 18min drive away and has so much to offer A very cute downtown with shops, restaurants, many historic sites and of course VMI, W&L and the Virginia Horse Center.

Buchanan is approx. 15minutes drive from the cottage. Walk across the Buchanan Swinging Bridge if you dare! Rent canoes, kayaks, rafts or river tubes to cool off in the James river or visit the weekly flea-market or one of the many antique shops.

The Blue Ridge Parkway can be accessed from 3 different points all within 15minutes or less (Glasgow US-501 is 6.8 miles; Buena Vista US-60 is 14miles, Buchanan US-43 12miles away)

There is so much to see and do in this area and there is really never a bad time to visit the Shenandoah Valley. Its a sight for sore eyes any time of the year. Come stay with us and see for yourself. We would love the opportunity to host you at our wonderful cottage. Hope to see you soon!

Listed below are our house rules. Booking a reservation is considered acknowledgement and acceptance of those rules. Breaking the house rules will result in immediate cancellation of your stay without refund, forfeiture of deposit and/or addl fees.
*Please treat our property like you were borrowing from a friend. Be respectful of
home, property and wildlife.
*While we are happy for our guests to entertain family and friends at our cottage,
there must be prior authorization before booking and an extra day-guest fee will
apply. No unauthorized people or pets at any time during your stay, please.
*Keep number of guests including visitors to no more than authorized at any time
during your stay. Same is true for dogs. With prior notification, no more than 2 dogs
at any time are allowed on the property.
*Smoking is restricted to porch and grounds. Please dispose of cigarette buds
properly (do not throw buds on the ground) Absolutely no smoking of any kind
allowed inside.
*Well behaved, vaccinated and housetrained dogs are welcome. Please don't leave your
pet unattended & pick up after up after your pet.
*Wildlife is abundant, therefore:
*Do not leave food or trash outside.
*Keep your pet leashed at all times while enjoying the outdoors as property is not
fenced.
*Occasionally a bug will make it into the cottage despite our best efforts and
frequent bug spraying. You are in the country and this is to be expected. No
refunds will be given.
*Virginia law prohibits feeding of bears.
*No hunting or discharging of firearms at any time.
*Enjoy campfires in designated area only. Fires must be attended to at all times and
fully extinguished before stepping away. All local burn restrictions must be followed.
*Quiet times are between 10pm-8am
*Please report any damage and/or breakage in a timely manner. Damages exceeding
the security deposit must be paid by guest.
Don't forget to close windows and lock doors when you leave.

We were in the area to spend time with my new son-in-law’s family for Thanksgiving so we rented this cottage. What a wonderful choice and we even were able to bring our dog! The cottage is decorated so nice, also, the beds were very comfortable. The place is pretty much spotless and the area was so tranquil. We would love to go back at some point and we will. We highly recommend!

An impeccably cozy and clean cottage to rest, relax and make family memories!!!
Words cannot express how impressed we are of this cottage! Lucky to have an unexpected early check in. This was our first stay in a vacation rental home as we have only stayed in hotels. What an amazing retreat away from the hustle & bustle of the city, but still very close to attractions, such as the Natural Bridge state park, the caverns, Virginia Safari Zoo, Natural Bridge Zoo, and quaint & quiet pit stops- Lexington & Buchanan. There are plenty of places to eat, shops, & gas stations in the area. While we could only go to places where dogs were allowed, we still didn’t feel like we missed out. Just more of a reason to come back! We were incredibly impressed with all the sweet gestures during our stay, such as a basket full of local details, games for our kids, and pet treats, couch covers, blankets, and toys! There were even tips for how to handle pets with potential bears! The cleanliness of the cottage was nothing like any place we have ever stayed at! So so impeccably clean, even for a family member with ‘germophobia’ . From past travel experiences, we were definitely at ease with staying in a place that was so clean! The kitchen was stocked with coffee, utensils, plates, soap, a sponge, & paper towels! There was a large trashcan, broom & dust pan. The family room was spacious! The bathroom had ample room for storage, towels, bath soap, shampoo, conditioner, bath mat, hooks for towels and clothing, door mirror, chairs, hand soap, night lights, tissue, lotion, and a laundry basket! The bedrooms had clean, fresh linens w/ comfortable mattresses and pillows and options for bright or dim lights. The rooms even had luggage racks with extra baskets for storage! The front/backyard were wonderful for outdoor sports and for sitting outside to enjoy a meal, drink and some fresh air! We enjoyed walking our dog on the long street leading up to the cottage. Thank you Marianne for your prompt communication prior, during and after our stay! While our stay was short lived, we had such a memorable trip that we will never forget. We work in the schools, dedicating our time, effort, and own money to help those in need. This was definitely a nice escape from reality and a wonderful place to sit back, count our blessings, relax, and recharge for the new work week. While there was no internet, our wifi hotspots were rarely turned on! It was way more fun to enjoy nature and the simple life! We will be back for sure! Thank you for blessing us with your home!

This property is located right by Natural Bridge State park and close to Lexington. We enjoyed three nights with our kids at the home- lots of games, fire pit, well stocked kitchen. The home is CLEAN and well prepared for guests. It was easy to communicate with Marianne. Highly recommend.

What a fantastic home base for our Girls’ Weekend get-a-way!
The house was spotless and had everything we needed to enjoy our long weekend. The close proximity to the Safari Park and Natural Bridge State Park (about 5 minutes away from the house) allowed us to really enjoy our time here. The view from Great Valley Farm Brewery is fantastic, the Asian pears from the Virginia Gold Orchard were delicious and downtown Lexington was so quaint (although if you go on a Sunday, a lot of the restaurants and shops are closed). We had an amazing time and can’t wait to come back.

Lovely mountain getaway
Our weekend stay in Natural Bridge was perfect, in large part to this home! It was cozy, clean, and private. Marianne left lovely personal touches that made it feel like home - supplies for our dogs, lots of board games (you won't even notice the lack of TV and wifi!), and a kitchen well stocked with essential tools. The moment I booked this home our host began communicating with me, offering any assistance I may need. Communication continued throughout our stay, including offering early check in as she had already prepared the home for us. When we walked in we found such lovely accommodations. The home was clean, beautifully decorated, comfortable and full of little considerations like, a box of fun stuff for our pup, including blankets, towels, toys and so much more. She also left treats and bottles of water for us adults! There was a pile of fun games that we enjoyed taking advantage of, we were so happy to unplug and spend time with each other instead of glued to electronic devices. Finally, the location is perfect! 10-20 minutes from all the cool places!!! We spent one afternoon at Natural Bridge and another at Safari Park. Since we weren't driving an hour to just get there we really got to spend quality time at these places! Thank you so much for hosting us in your home.

Exactly as described! We booked both houses next to each other in order to accommodate our whole group. Perfect setting of both houses on a nice hill on a side road away from traffic. Plenty of parking and easy to maneuver multiple cars with the circular driveways! Very peaceful setting. We were there for VMI graduation activities for the weekend. Outside of Lexington, but still plenty close for our runs into town and to post each day! We took advantage of the location and stayed an extra day after graduation to visit the Natural Bridge Zoo and Natural Bridge, as both were just a hop, skip & a jump down the road! Very close and convenient! Halycon Days Cider Company and the Safari park are also not far down the road. Houses were very clean with a little bit of everything you may need for either a short or long stay! Great variety of games, cards, puzzles, etc. Felt very welcomed having our dog with everything provided for her including towels, blanket, couch cover, food and water dishes, and treats! The owner (Marianne) was excellent and personable with communication! We had booked the houses several months ago so she touched base as the date got closer to confirm everything was still on track. Check-in day communication was timely and easy! As soon as she discovered a potential issue with the second house she was quick to send a message and follow-up with a phone call. Everything worked out fine, but I was highly impressed with her concern regarding our stay and comfort!! Thank you for everything! My son has now graduated, but if we're back in the area for a visit or to go to Natural Bridge or the zoo we will definitely be interested in staying again!

This is a brand new cottage. Everything was extremely clean! We had olenty of towels and washclothes. The beds were sooo comfortable! The host had left us some breakfast goodies, hot chocolate and milk which was nice since we got in so late. We had an issue with the air not cooling but this is a brand new unit so not their fault. Things happen. But I was very impressed aboit how quick she responded to get us help and even brought us 3 box fans so we could get air in from outside. Life happens but how they helped us deal with it was the important thing. I will stay here again!! We throughly loved everything about our stay. Absolutely beautiful scenery all around. Highly highly recommend!!

Quiet, impeccably clean, beautiful setting. This was a great place to stay while we were helping my parents get settled in their new place. Marianne was such a kind host. Communication was quick. Every supply you could want, and more, was available. She even offered to bring us more coffee and other supplies if we needed it! Dog bowl, biscuits and dog blankets were readily available if we had forgotten ours. Very dog friendly. Cute, clean, quiet, natural setting. Perfect little cottage!

Short, 2 night, stop in Natural Bridge area at the end of our spring break. House next door to Natural Bridge and Caverns and a very short drive to great food and craft beers in Lexington. Super friendly host, who communicates well! Went out of her way to be accommodating, and took pride in her property. The house is exactly as described, and very clean! There were plenty of blankets, towels, pillows, etc... We enjoyed being just far enough away, without being "too far"!
