Gorgeously secluded with 180-degree views of the surrounding mountains and the tranquil Sunday River valley, this four-bedroom lodge in Newry is a showcase of Western Maine's immense natural beauty. Here at the end of a 1,000-foot driveway, on a two-acre, PetSafe-fenced property that's incredibly secure for dogs, you'll experience some of the most beautiful sunsets and star-filled night skies you've ever seen, with the Sunday River fireworks visible from all levels of the house.

The home is full of thoughtful decor and plush comforts, from the natural log furnishings and the moose-and-bear rugs to the original art painted by Gary Polonski, a local Maine artist who studied under John Grillo. Step inside the great room after a day spent skiing, snowshoeing, kayaking, hiking, or leaf-peeping to curl up by the 23-foot-high, stone-encased fireplace and gaze at the panoramic view of Sunday River's eight peaks through 18 custom-designed windows. Grab a warm pair of socks from the private washer/dryer and head downstairs to the family room, where a suspended big-screen TV, a wood-burning stove, a quiet desk and workspace, and walls papered in scenes of nature create a truly inviting atmosphere for watching Netflix or catching up on a bit of work. Come summertime, the wrap-around deck offers a gas grill, multiple dining tables, and both Adirondack and lounge chairs, while the firepit just below features bench seating for family evenings full of s'mores and scary stories.

Sleep soundly each night in one of the four bedrooms, all of which have been beautifully outfitted with natural wood walls and bed frames. The master suite features a hand-crafted, king-size log bed, a ceramic Jotul stove, and a private bathroom with a custom rain shower and a large, two-person jetted bathtub. The other three bedrooms - two on the main level and one on the lower level - have a custom queen bed apiece; there's also an ADA-accessible bathroom on the main level and a third bathroom downstairs.

Amazing view
The view from the living room/kitchen out to the mountains looked like a postcard! It was so pretty! The kitchen was well-stocked, and it was easy for me to put meals together for our family. We chose to eat in for most of our meals, so we could enjoy the house. The master bed was super comfy, and the house was very clean. We did have an issue with an electrical outlet throwing a circuit breaker, but the property manager was very responsive and had a repair person come and fix it within an hour. Loved this house!

This place was beautiful. Everything was clean and neat. We enjoyed the Art work, the peace and tranquility, and the night sky. This is on the top of our list so far of places we've rented. Was hoping to catch sight of a Moose, but no luck. Just take note to check the trash and recycle bins when you first get there because we believe Mr. Bear raided the trash during the night and made quite a mess of it. Otherwise LOVED IT!!!

SINCERELY, FROM NEW YORK
Finding a great getaway isn’t always obvious. We didn’t know it was there until opening the front door. But here we found it! Snowflakes danced gracefully on occasion during our strolls. A cozy fire relaxed us as we soaked our view off powder ridge. A fabulous chance to taste being mostly away from it all. A neighborly feel, with hints of subtle moments alone weaving together perfectly. Our time was never enough at the Artist Lodge. We sorely miss it. Our daily treasured breakfast routine wrapped around a sense of nostalgia. After a comfy night under the blankets, food coated our belly’s just as well for a day of rest. Thanks for it, sincerely!

We absolutely had a phenomenal time at the Artists Lodge and would 100% return. Amazing views, great location, and very nice home. All you need to bring are food and clothes and the rest is there to make it feel like you are at home. Look forward to returning again in the future.
