We had a fantastic week. Great prooerty everthing you need and more. The cottage was very clean on arrival and the location is perfect. Our 2 grandsons loved how quiet it was and all the wildlife around about. Plenty to do and see for trips out and we would definitely recommend this property .

A lovely cottage.
A lovely family break to get away and relax. The cottage was perfect and just what we needed for a cozy getaway. It was plenty big enough for two adults and two teenage children to have the space they needed. The small kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed, we even made pancakes on Shrove Tuesday! We would highly recommend this cottage we had a lovely relaxing time and explored the nearby towns and distilleries.

Wonderful property
Wonderful first stay in Scotland . The cottage is warm , welcoming, clean and has everything you need and more for a comfortable stay. It is in a fairly remote position with just a couple of properties in eyesight . So if your looking to engage with nature then this ideal . During our stay we woke every morning to 3 deer at the front of the property, we observed birds building their nests in the nesting boxes and watched various species of birds around the property. The cottage is an excellent base to explore the surrounding area such as the White Loch , Drumclodden stones and Port William all in walking distance . We really enjoyed our stay at this lovely cottage . Charles the owner left all the information for the property and places of interest nearby . We would definitely like to revisit in the near future . Thank you Charles for a lovely stay

A quiet retreat
This cottage is in a quiet location a few miles from Port William. There are no other dwellings nearby, except a farm further along the lane. We saw a small group of deer twice in the garden in the early morning. The cottage is warm, comfortable and well equipped. It was spotlessly clean when we arrived. The host was friendly and helpful both before and after our stay. Dumfries and Galloway is an excellent area to holiday in. It is quiet and unspoilt, with woods, waterfalls, coastal walks and beaches. We saw grey seals and many birds, including gannets, egrets, herons, curlews, a peregrine falcon, red kites and buzzards. We would be happy to return to both the cottage and the area.

Just lovely!
We enjoyed our stay at Burnside immensely. The cottage was very well equipped and very cosy and the perfect place to return to after a day exploring the beautiful surrounding areas. We saw deer and hares in the garden a few times which was exciting. Weather was good too. We will definitely consider returning next year.

Cosy cottage
Quiet location and very cosy cottage. Very easy to communicate with hosts. Manual with cottage info and walks, beaches, sights and restaurant suggestions very helpful. Bathroom (particularly the shower) could do with updating and dining chairs need replacing. But overall a very relaxing and enjoyable visit

Just what we needed peace and quiet away from it all .weather let us down but we didnt care we were happy chilling and explored some places before we came up the road . It is immaculate, has everything anyone could need . The log shed was full ,the bed was extra comfy best sleep in a long time, plenty towels, cleaning products ect. My only regret was leaving this cottage. Ideal for families or in our case couples needing peace and quiet. Loved it .

Great little house for our week away
What a lovely house set away from the main road but with easy access to the Machars and Galloway coast. The house is single level but spacious enough for the 4 of us and had all the provisions we needed. The kids had a good selection of DVDs to entertain themselves with as & when it rained but because of the location we were out and about every day. Highlights were the beautiful sandy beaches and warm (for the UK!) sea at Rigg Bay & Monreith Golf Club whilst a day trip over to Portpatrick was easy and that is a beautiful spot to while away an afternoon along the cliff top and harbour. 25mins north of the house is Galloway Forest Park and we went to the Deer range and saw the Wild Goats as well as doing a lovely walk around Grey Mare's Tail waterfall. Due to COVID the castles and visitor centres (apart from the Chocolate Factory which the kids loved!) were largely shut but we were lucky with mainly good weather so being out and about was a joy and there is so much left to explore so we will be back! Thanks to Rob for making the trip so easy and safe, it is appreciated.

Quiet Stay in a Comfortable Cottage
We (a family of 5) enjoyed a short stay in Burnside cottage. The location was lovely and quiet and the cottage was ideal for our short stay. The property was clean on arrival and in general was in good order. Perhaps the bathroom could do with being upgraded but it was still clean and functional. The kids enjoyed playing in the garden and watching the wildlife and cows! The location of the cottage was ideal for exploring this corner of Scotland with many of the areas attractions only a short drive away.

Beautiful cottage in stunning location
The cottage was really well equipped with everything we needed for our young family. The folders with the guides in were completely comprehensive and gave some great ideas for places to eat, visit and relax. The area is beautiful and we did a lot of walking around the White Loch of Myrton and St Ninian’s Cave. We’d love to visit again and are already looking at holiday dates for next year.

Really enjoyed our stay here, well kept property in a very wild remote setting. Well stocked with everything you might need. Bladnoch Inn is well worth a visit, especially their fish fridays.(Whiskey is worth a try too) Recommend taking a walk down to St Ninians Cave, and visiting the Mull of Galloway lighthouse. Ideal place to stay if you are interested in walking holidays or birdwatching.

Ideal for those seeking peace and quiet.
Weather was cool and showery, but cottage heating was up and running when we arrived - many thanks for that. Accommodation is very comfortable and roomy. Only one moan- the lack of phone signal in the cottage should perhaps have been mentioned in the property description. Older guests (like us) appreciate the reassurance a working phone line provides.

Thanks for the review and feedback Alan. Some mobile phone networks get reception at the cottage, for others you have to walk up the hill a bit! There is a landline in the cottage which receives incoming calls and which can make outgoing 999 calls. Sorry if all this wasn't clear in advance. Thanks again for the review.

A few cold wet days tested the heating then the sun came out. Difficult to find because the name is on the side away from the road and the sat nav took us to a ridge overlooking the property. Once found it is a good property.

Great cottage in a peaceful location.
Just got back from a fantastic week in this lovely cottage. Spacious and well equipped - it had everything we needed. The deer came to visit in the garden, which was a treat. Lots of bird life. Plenty of space to sit out and lap up the sunshine. And best of all - so, so peaceful. If you want to get away from it all then this is the place. The loudest noise was the cows munching the grass in the nearby field. Plenty to see in the area as well - a useful information pack was waiting for us along with lots of maps and leaflets. As the weather was so good we spent a lot of time around the coast - from the Mull of Galloway to the Isle of Whithorn, very pretty. There's also Galloway Forest Park to explore. We really didn't want to leave. Would love to return one day.

Meikle Killantrae: Splendid Isolation.
We enjoyed the location and the peace and quiet. A few things need attention. All three gates need repair; the chimney should be bird proofed; and the hot taps in the bathroom and kitchen need some work. The operation of the television via Sky is idiosyncratic to say the least but we mastered it eventually, it should be looked at however. The directions for finding the property when approached from Newton Stewart were spot on but mention might be made of the "hogs back" hazard on the access road - we scraped the underside of our car on first approach but subsequently avoided the problem. The property was clean and inviting upon arrival and we enjoyed exploring a part of Galloway we hadn't visited before.

Clean, warm and cosy cottage
Burnside cottage is situated in an idyllic spot on the Wigtown Peninsula. The wildlife around the cottage was amazing; we saw deer twice in the adjacent field, many different types of birds on the feeders, buzzards, voles to name but a few. The coastline is stunning and we visited most of the local sights. Don't miss Rigg Bay a 20 minute walk from Garlieston harbour. We also managed to trace my husbands family back to the mid 1600s as they hale from the Wigtown area. The weather was kind but it was lovely to return to such a warm and well equipped cottage. The owners and Linda the housekeeper, should be congratulated as we wanted for nothing.

An amazing holiday in an ideal location
Burnside Cottage was a tranquil retreat under the stars, a perfect place to celebrate New Years Eve. The cottage was superbly furnished, with a lovely log fire in the lounge, comfortable sofas and plenty of entertainment options (wifi + television). It sits on its own small lane with a stream running along the bottom, the views from the cottage were great but the night sky was even more impressive. From the cottage we ventured out on a number of walks to the coast and local lochs, there was plenty to explore within walking distance and it was so calming and peaceful being away from everyone. The cottage itself was a cosy refuge when the weather was a little stormy, comfortable bedding and heating throughout. There was a lot of effort to ensure that you have everything you need, from kitchen equipment to binoculars. We had an amazing time and would definitely consider visiting again. Great for couples, friends and families.
