Definitely not a 4 star hotel anymore
This is definitely not a 4 star hotel. The good: located in quiet neighborhood with amazing views of Florence. Beautiful gardens. The bad: our first room didn’t hit have hot water or a real shower, just a bath tub and wand. We were moved to a new room (which also didn’t have hot water until we complained again) but the toilet barely functioned in this room. Rooms and hotel generally need to be remodeled. The couch in our room was old and stained. The pool isn’t heated, so despite being 80F outside the water was too cold to really enjoy (late September). What made our stay even worse is that when we called Hotels.com they told us that since hot water and a functioning toilet aren’t listed amenities, they would not help us find a new hotel. Disappointing hotel experience l, TERRIBLE Hotels.com experience.

Unique experience
There is nowhere like Torre di Bellosguardo. It is an incredible experience - of faded grandeur and a lost time. It is very quiet and there is a sense of being disconnected from the contemporary world. The villa and its extraordinary grounds are a work of art, each stairwell opens up to another view, another surprise. Many of the rooms are frescoed. Each gorgeous bedroom is uniquely styled with antique furnishings. The rooms are massive with incredible views over Florence. The bathrooms are beautiful but you have to commit to the fact that nothing quite works to modern standards & part of the sense of relaxation is being taken away from the modern world. The swimming pool set in a beautiful garden has the best views over the city. Its probably my favourite place to stay in the world but I should say that it won't be for everyone - but if you are looking for visual pleasure, a slow pace & the luxury of peace this is for you.

A truly wonderful stay! Location is peaceful with incredible views overlooking Firenze, lush gardens to stroll through, and awe-inspiring historical ambience throughout the property - this place feels untouched by time in the best of ways. The pool wasn’t open yet as the season had just begun, but I did catch a glimpse of it and it looked very inviting. Breakfast was quite nice, plenty to choose from and all items very fresh and flavorful. My only suggestion would be that it would have been nice to have some comfortable outdoor seating in the garden areas; it would have been lovely to have been able to sit/lounge outside with a book (and the friendly resident cats). Hoping to return next spring, thanks for a delightful visit!

Above It All
The Torre di Bellosguardo is one of the most deliciously aesthetic sites and spaces anywhere in the Western world. The view over Florence is transporting, the grounds are pleasing for walks and trysts, the rooms with frescoes, some from the fifteenth century, are impressive.

Oasis in the hills above Florence
Wonderful hotel. An oasis five minutes away from the centre by taxi. 13th century villa with beautiful frescos and furnishings. You can walk through the surrounding grounds (which includes an orchard, vineyard, vegetables and animals including three donkeys) down the hill to Florence. The staff were very courteous and made us feel very welcome.

Florence
We stayed two night in this hotel. The hotel is an old castle converted to hotel sitting on a hill over the city center. The view is mesmerizing and the hotel is basically a semi museum with the friendliest staff I have ever seen. Our room was on the second floor with the view of the city on one side, and pool on the other. Breakfast was served on the balcony with another breathtaking view of Florence. Don't believe them when they say it is a 10 min walk to the city, it is more like 30 min but who cares the walk is in the old streets are part of the fun anyway.

Very Disappointing
First of all the staff were fantastic. They waited for us on our Extremly late flight!!! They served us a cold plater on arrival as we had to cancle dinner due to the late flight!! However!!. The first room was rooom 7. This was on 2 floors. Had a fab view and? Curtains dated did not fit. Let in so much light we could not sleep. No fridge working, no tea or coffe making. Memory foam beds are a norm in Italy but myself and other half have a reaction to the foam. It was over rated as a room shabby sheek & so green!! So we moved to room 8! Better room almost (neighbours tried to get through the ajoining door which we were told to keep locked. ). The bath/room was ok for a very small person or a child. ( Oh by the way No showere or wet rooms in either except over the bath taps). The bed was much better but! memorry foam, plugs were over my head under my pilllow so I had to remove them for the lamp . It had a piano the room (different)? Great views but! No tea/coffee etc. No fridge working. A lovely bowle of fresh fruite was waiting & botttle of warm water. It was all clean and I say it again the staff are all 5 Star! Its a wounderful historic building, fab views best ever of Florance. All be it up the top of a very winding hill which could pass as the M25 traffic wise on a bad day (take care driving) . The pool was fab, gardens amazing. No resturanunt food id brough from below to order at another resturaunt. Nothing much to do up there but rest and relax with nature. wifi fab!!

A room and pool with a view.
Magnificent historic building with the most spectacular location overlooking Florence. Beautiful gardens and swimming pool. Delightful covered area for breakfast. We had a fantastic room (9) overlooking Florence and to the south. It was with great difficulty that we dragged ourselves away after 2 nights. Hotel doesn't have a chef and dinner is brought in. Would be wonderful if it had a good resident chef.

Our 25th Wedding Aniv
This place is number one. We will be comparing other places we stay with Torre di for the rest of our lives. We are world travelers for many, many years. We plan a return trip to Florence next year (for a month) and not only plan to stay with these folks, but also to entertain friends who will be staying in the area. It is an understatement to say that it is a “step-back-in-time”. It is so unique an experience that your dreams are even different while staying here. I don’t require much sleep and was often awake in the early hours of the morning. One of my most enjoyable memories was to stroll the grounds, with a glass of house wine, at 3:00 in the morning. To see the city below and the rolling hills is better than anything that can be man created. You must put this on your list to enjoy before you use all your time up with lesser adventures. Kind personal regards to all, Bruce, exq

Step back in time
Only spent one night there as we had picked up a car and wanted to be out of Florence for ease of parking. I loved the hotel it was so old and the gardens were lovely and the views over Florence spectacular. Our rooms were clean and grand in size. Being so old it did not have the advantages of modern hotel the bathroom was small but the water pressure was good which surprised me. My husband didn't like it as much he prefers the comforts of a modern hotel, although he liked the garden and view. Overall we both enjoyed our short stay our only criticism was the breakfast was very basic and ordinary . It was a wonderful experience but one my husband was pleased to have enjoyed for only one night while I could have happily stayed longer

Beautiful place
With amazing views, superb gardens and an extraordinarily stunning property, this is where your money is being spent. The breakfasts are not good value, the bacon is far too salty and the scrambled eggs are like rubber. Just add some milk! There should be a chef on site to cook in the evening as the meal we had ordered in for us in was rather luke warm and ridiculously expensive. The hotel should provide a map of Florence upon arrival for all guests, especially the ones who decide they are going to walk everywhere and not take the taxi up and down the steep hill. And in this knowledge that we were walking it was rather disappointing to find from the front desk (a different receptionist) as were leaving with our suitcases that there was a short cut to Florence through the gardens. Maybe this calibre of hotel should offer a car shuttle service as well as the previously mentioned kitchen. The garden should be lit at night time in order to make the most of them.

A wonderful and charming villa-hotel
I loved this centuries old villa. The grounds are splendid and offer respite from the craziness of the city. Breakfast outside on the terrace with a delicious cappuccino is serene. The views of the city from the hotel grounds are the best. The dinner provided by a local trattoria delicious. I hope to return. Not the place for the traveller who wants all things modern.

Ancient torre with best view of Florence
A historic building with magnificent ceilings and tasteful antique furnishings. Splendid views over the beautiful garden and Florence itself. Peace apart from the noise of the swifts flying overhead, after the tourist mayhem of the city. it felt as if one was in the country but it was a very doable walk down a steep track into town through the fields and vineyard. Our stay was perfect.

Classy and pricey Fawlty Towers
Nightmare mis-routing by my GPS meant it took 30 mins to find after a 4 hr drive from Antibes. Not the hotel's fault as such but wholly inadequate info on their website to guide people to the 'easy' route up (via Piana - one of three) which we learnt on the way down in the taxi to town in the morning. Stunning views and absolutely amazing building and gardens. Huge rooms and frescoes and a live parrot in the 20ft high lobby but...... Room was freezing and air heating is centrally controlled from the lobby but very helpful night porter brought a little fan heater which made it ok-ish. Cold water was full of rust for the first 10 mins. Shower only had one temperature (v.hot) as the thermostat was knackered. No internet outside ground floor lobby. TV had about 300 channels - 150 'local' Toscana ones one French none in English (unless you count MTV!). No BBC, CNN, BLOOMBERG, CNBC or any sports channels but porn available if you are into that! Elderly owner clearly cares more for the building than to run a high class modern hotel....revels in the inadequacy of the telecoms. If he did it could be one of the great hotels. At 300€/night it's not.

Gorgeous View, amazing antique villa
The hotel was amazing to look at and to walk the grounds. It overlooks Florence, and you can clearly see the Dome of the Duomo. The gardens are beautiful. Instead of driving or taking a cab into the heart of Firenze, my husband and I walked a path down the hill into the heart of the city and it only took us between 20 and 30 min (depending on how much you stop and explore). Then we took a cab back that night after dark and it was about 14 Euro- cheap! The inside of the building maintains the original beauty of the original villa. Large vaulted painted ceilings, columns, arches, even the windows maintain the era of the original building. The rooms have antique, hand carved furniture. Ours had a full set including canopy bed, armoire, desk and dresser. Tha bathrooms are beautifully updated in whites with chrome finishes. The only downside to the whole experience was that EVERYTHING was a la carte. Aside from the room, nothing else was included in the stay. But it truly was like stepping back in time and where better to do that than in Florence?!?!

Great location/building but totally rundown
A nice villa in a great location on the hills facing Florence with a 5-10 minute taxi ride to mid town. There are a few issues though: * underinvestment - the place is visibly run down and needs a complete overhaul * no restaurants to have dinner or proper lounge or bar to sit down and relax or accept guests * the AC is not enough for the summer heat, no Overall this building has the potential to be a very special hotel but it needs a lot of work and before then I can't recommend it to you - definitely not at the ca. €300 a night rate

What an amazing view
I chose the hotel because its one of the few to have a single room option and as I was staying in Florence to learn some Italian I didn't need something palatial. However there was an issue with my little room in the turret on the first evening so I was swiftly moved to a very spacious, double postered ground floor room and the owner sought me out to personally apologise. All of the staff couldn't have been nicer and even let me try and speak a few sentences of my newly acquired Italian with them. And I had the lovely room for the full length of my stay. The real uniqueness of Bellusguardo is the amazing view - probably the best of all in Florence. The hotel is a good 30 - 40 minute walk from the centre but what a fabulous walk it is - I walked there and back it was such a delight. For those less fit or less keen on walking then its a taxi or you'll need a car to explore Tuscany. Quiet, unpretentious with more of a home from home feel - except obviously its a beautiful turreted palazzo style property. So if you like quiet, with understated service, then this is for you. If you want buzz, entertainment, want to meet other fellow travellers or are looking for spa treatments and the works - go to an hotel in central Florence or somewhere which offers all of the bells and whistles. However I thought it was perfect for me.

Excellent historic house which feels more like a home as you wander around, best views of Florence from the pool terrace which was made special for my wife's birthday as we were able to watch the sun set over the city followed by the illumination as night drew in! Although the staff are very friendly unfortunately what lets the hotel down is having what seems like a shoe string budget. They have very little in the way of facilities only one outdoor swimming pool which was rather dirty, no gym, no spa, no restaurant(you can order a take out for your evening meal). We had damp patches in our room and the TV was tiny(see pics). They operate on a skeleton crew I only ever saw two people in the hotel at once. When we came to check out I asked if someone could come up to bring our luggage down, the same women who was a middle aged tiny lady I talked to at reception knocked on my door and proceeded to grab my huge suit cases naturally I stopped her and carried my own luggage down. The outside of the hotel is stunning and the views are to die for but the actual running of the hotel is pitiful.

Torre Di Bellosguardo is a magical place. We felt so lucky to have found it.
A beautiful, unique setting, gorgeous views and gardens, thoughtful staff. This historic villa stirred our imagination and gave us an escape from the heat and congestion of Florence. A short taxi ride down a winding old road that cuts through the hills around Florence allowed us to zip into town for museum trips, shopping and dinner. We loved it.

An experience to remember
My wife an I stayed here for only one night and wished we would have stayed longer...we didn't even want to leave our room it was so lovely. The hotel is perched on top of a hill overlooking Florence. Our shutters on the windows opened up to give us a breathtaking view of Florence below. Room was extremely spacious and the hotel help was very friendly. It was a truly romantic experience indeed. We enjoyed simply walking around the gardens and inside the castle-esque estate. Our favorite was the trip on foot to Florence - leave through the gardens in back, down a semi steep descending trail, past a donkey pasture, through a gate, and down into the city (or you can drive) we preferred the walk, took about 10-15 min to get to Florence on foot. There is free wifi in lobby and free parking. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.

All about the view and the atmosphere
Bellosguardo sits overlooking Florence with breathtaking views and a relaxed atmosphere. The rooms are large and filled with original details. I highly recommend sitting by the pool one afternoon taking in the view and enjoying a glass of Proseco. It's an easy taxi ride to/from the hotel to all the major sites/area. The staff is beyond accommodating and helpful while remaining in the background as part of the experience. We chose this hotel based on a recommendation and experienced exactly what we needed, rest and relaxation with a beautiful bustling city, 10 minutes away.
