As Close as you can get to the Ocean South of Chincoteague

Historic vacation home in Parksley with fitness center
Please feel free to write if you have questions. Unlike Chincoteague, this is a rural setting - the neighborhood is eight houses along Metompkin Bay. But it's an easy half-hour trip to Chincoteague if you'd rather go to the beach there. Our beach is a 15-minute kayak trip away (there are SIX sea kayaks included in the rental). There are also lot of little creeks in the marsh to explore by kayak. If you have a boat, there's a public boat ramp close by. Our neighbors often fish in the bay, and surf fishing is great at certain times of year. We have crab traps - the crabbing is pretty good off the dock. If you are birders, there are all sorts of places to go (just ask me)! Onancock (10 minutes away) is where we go for nice restaurants and charming little shops. Lots of other attractions are shown in this listing. We have decks all over the place - two on the water side and one on the land side, in addition to a screened porch - lovely views in all directions. The house is almost all windows on the water side, to take advantage of these wonderful views. The living room/dining room/kitchen is open plan and on the water side of the house. A bedroom, bath, and second bedroom/TV room are on the road side of the house. The bathroom houses a washer and drier that are hidden behind doors. The master bedroom, (loft) and bath occupy the upstairs, and have an even better view of the marshes, bay, and even a glimpse of the ocean! The bottom floor is a garage, and has a laundry sink and extra refrigerator. For more pictures, things to do, and our other rental check out our Instagram page @DevineRetreats

Stunning
Having perfect weather didn’t hurt, but this place was simply stunning. The kayak trips to the beach were extraordinary. The kitchen is top-notch. It was one of our favorite rentals ever. Thanks Colette!

Very special place
This location is quietly spectacular and the house is designed to make the most of it. The wall of windows on the main living floor let the surroundings in all day long. The shelves are stocked with nature books. The kitchen has everything you need, in full view of the beautiful surroundings. Colette is a very responsive host.

Peaceful week on VA Eastern Shore
With COVID throwing off all of our travel plans, we've been relegated to driving-range trips and have tried to make the most of renting in locations we've always meant to visit. That's definitely the case with Collette's place on the VA Eastern Shore. While I've lived in VA for 20 years, we've never been to any place besides Chincoteague. I loved this quiet piece of Virginia with both bayside and oceanside parks and beaches to explore. This house is in a great location for easy daytrips both north and south on the peninsula. Having the kayaks to explore the creek and paddle out to the empty to beach when the tides were favorable was a highlight. We were treating to a sunset from the kayaks one evening and each morning caught the sun rising. If you are a birder, cyclist, hiker or just someone seeking a bit of solace right now, this is your place. The kitchen was well stocked and the bed was quite comfortable. We appreciated the screen porch with its comfortable chairs for reading and cocktails. Only con: the eastern shore is very, very buggy. Bring repellent and be vigilant about keeping doors shut so the mosquitoes don't get inside!

Fantastic solitude
This place is fantastic. The view is gorgeous and the outside is teaming with Eastern Shore life, from bald eagles, egrets and ospreys to turtles and mysterious jumping fish. Kayaking on the tidal waters was the quietest, most peaceful activity I've done in years. The house is perhaps the best stocked rental I've ever stayed in, with all necessary supplies, a telescope, binoculars, nice wine glasses, comfortable chairs, etc. Colette worked patiently and with great flexibility when my schedule changed. Really a great place.

Relaxing
From the moment we arrived and saw the view over Metompkin Bay from the deck (and master balcony!) we were immediately relaxed. What a beautiful property! The house is well equipped for cooking and music and full of light! The wild life is amazing and abundant. One bit of advice, if you kayak to the beach make sure there's an ocean breeze, i.e., winds from the NE to SE and anything in between. If it's a land breeze (coming off the land) the biting flies will be on the beach, though they won't bother you by/in the surf. Of course that's true of any beach,. Can't rate this highly enough! And Colette was prompt with replies to any questions. Great spot!
