On checkin we found a somewhat accommodating reception by the manager who ended up moving us to the building next door. At the time I was impressed as the building next door was much nicer than the Alma and Mar building. From there it kind of went downhill. They only provide one key and they have almost no reception presence. We ended up getting locked out of the hotel late at night when I had to leave the key with my son in the room. I called the building. Their response was “wait until another guest comes and then sneak in the door behind them.” After 40 minutes I ended up having to do just that. Second issue: There was NO internet in the room and not only did my daily reminders of that fact to hotel staff go unanswered, the manager actually started yelling at me on the third day of my request. I know. First world problems right? lol anyway. I pushed my flight back a day but I decided it was more pleasant to pay more money at another hotel AND repack AND move hotels AND unpack again rather than extend my stay for a single night. that pretty much says it all.

What I don’t like is that after 9 pm there was no water. I tried to contact the hotel but never got an answer back. Bedsheets were stained. What I did like is that it was close to everything.

This is a classic old style Mexican hotel. The bright colours, authentic tiling, & interior was pleasing. You can stay at a mc-resort and not know what country you are in. Not here. Must like Mexican music blaring, have patience with low water pressure, and the occasional smell from plumbing. Located off 5th avenue where people congregate. Food in the area is diverse and good. 5 mins walk to Maritsa beach which has a sandy bottom.

Simple clean room that has AC and TV Bathroom kinda dated but water was hot and for $23 a night I think it was great for that price I would definitely stay there again if I was to return

The room had a foul smell and was extremely dusty. Luckily i was only there for 1 night. This is definitely a 2 star property at best. Try soul beach or hacienda paradise for a similar price

I knew because of the price this would not be a 4 star hotel Which was fine but what wasn't fine was the fact that the first room they put us in smelled like sewer and mold so I asked to be moved. Once we moved to different room that had a balcony thank goodness so we could leave the windup open to elevate the constant smell of the sewer. There were nit blankets for the bed only a top sheet, no hot water in the bathroom sink and when we asked for more towels we were told there weren't any because the maids had not brought them back from the laundry. When we are going to the beach we asked for beach towels which the info on the hotel said were included we were told there weren't any. The only thing good about this hotel is the location it's right in the middle of the tourist strip on 5th other then that it's not worth the price.

THEFT from housekeeping. I hate to leave a review like this, but feel like it's important to note. Everything was good here, until I realized cash was missing from my bag on the last day. No one was in my room except housekeeping. I understand I should've put my cash in the safe, but still, there is no other explanation than someone who worked there stole. I'm certain. The hotel wouldn't do anything about it, and it definitely put a damper on my stay here.

Strange story… We arrived at Alma Y Mar Suites to learn they did not have a room for us, despite the fact that we had made a reservation several months earlier. They had even messaged us earlier in the day asking what time we would arrive. We assured them that we would be arriving around 3 PM. But upon arrival, their system did not have a room for us. They offered to put us up in another hotel, but suggested that we would need to provide our own transportation to get there. After much insistence, the person at the desk finally agreed to pay for our cab fare, and actually walked with us to the street corner to hail and pay for the cab. Fortunately, this all worked out well, as the new hotel received us and provided a comparable room without any additional funds. So to the credit of the receptionist at Alma Y Mar, we were ultimately taken care of, albeit one hour later during the heat of the afternoon. My limited Spanish and her limited English made the situation more difficult, but we were thankful to be placed. Clearly, the management system of their room inventory needs some work.

The room was dirty. The sheets and towels were stained. The sheets did not fit the bed. No blankets or covers, only a thin sheet. Low water pressure. The shower did not drain well. When we complained to the person at the front desk she tried contacting the manager but there was never any answer. We never got blankets and only got replacement towels if ours ccx were wet. They refused to give us extra towels to use as bed covers since there were no blankets. The front desk ladies tried to help but management was totally uncooperative. One of our worst hotel experiencies anywhere. Also one morning there was no city water and the hotel cistern was broken do no water in the morning. Despite our many attempts at contacting the manager we never heard from them. I would not recommend staying here. The location is great, but not worth putting up with the abuse and at these prices.

This place is perfectly located close enough to the bustling 5th Avenue strip and just 2 blocks from a nice beach. There is a great restaurant right next door. It’s quiet and clean.

They gave me the wrong room type. three people in one queen room. They count the towels. The room reeked of asbestos stink. They walked us into a occupied room after waiting all day for a room. They charge for extra towels. They never changed or clean towels after staying for 6 days, I had to ask the lady to switch out my towels and I guess they really inspect your towels because they waited until the day of my check out to tell me that I owed two hundred pesos ($10.00) for my dirty towel. The older man at the reception was the worse customer service I have ever had. He literally went to the room brought the towels to the desk counted them and threw it at me and told me to go wash it!!! he was yelling at me in front of everyone. I cannot believe we were treated this way I am appalled. I told him I purchased a towel when we arrived to go to the beach which that would make it "my towel" the man charged me twice and called me a liar. It left such a bad taste that I would never go back and I suggest no one ever stays there!! unless you want to be humiliated, called a liar, robbed and taken advantage of.

Looks good and friendly! The problem was sheets of bed where dirty. In addition shower doors where broken so we had to advice management for a shower cutting to be placed. Front desk was amazing just rooms need a lot of help.

Good hotel but difficult to find
Great location, the biggest issue is that the hotel location on Google Maps is a little off, and there is no sign outside the hotel. The main picture of the hotel's advertisement has a picture of a white sign, but that sign isn't there anymore. I tried to find the hotel a few weeks ago before I booked and I couldn't find it. It took me 10 minutes to find it after I booked, there is only a small portable sign outside with the words "Alma y Mar" hand written on the bottom. They would be better off if they changed the picture on the website, so in the future their guests won't have to walk around looking for a sign that isn't there.

I booked the quadruple room and was much more than just two beds. It was actually an open bedroom with a mini fridge and tv and then restroom and the main bedroom. Only the main bedroom has an A/C but the first one has a ceiling fan that works fine. Restroom is in poor condition, need shampoo and soap holders in shower, towel bar is rusted and floor in general looks old. The place was clean and the staff is super friendly. If you plan to just have a spacious place to rest and do not spend lots of money on one of those expensive hotels this is the one. It’s literally on 5th avenue and as soon as you step out, it’s restaurants, bars, EVERYTHING! We had our days full of activities and didn’t come back to our room until after 9pm pretty much all of our stay and we did get to rest since place is quiet and has dark curtains too. Overall, you get much more for what you pay. Owner needs to do some upgrades since place is old and looks kinda dirty at some points but overall you get more for what you pay.

Nice basic room with small balcony and daily maid service. Rod, but no hangers for clothes. Ad states beach towels but there are none. Minimal breakast for $7 USD was milk, cereal, juice, toast brought out each morning and set up in lounge area on 2nd floor. Close to beach and busy, noisy 5th Avenue and plenty of restaurants nearby. Overall a good buy for price.

Breakfast was not included in your rate, so the $7.00 US you refer is when you want breakfast in the restaurant right next door for an american breakfast. We never charged you this $7.00. The breakfast you refer we have is a courtecy breakfast we serve at the Hotel for everyone as a courtecy but is not charged or included in the rate :). We have beach towels but they need to be requested at frontdesk, we apologize if we did not explain you this when doing check in :). We will be putting more hangers in the rooms which are provided aswell when requested :).

Because it was small, it felt cozy. I never saw another tourist, we were next to a coffee shop, walking distance to shopping, restaurants, clubs, bars, and beach. What I didn't like is that there's no elevator since we stayed on the 3rd floor.

Hotel Great location, easy walk to 5 ave with lots of places to eat and shop. The didnt like theres No parking, you have park about 5 blocks away. The only change the towels once a day and theres NO extra towels. So if plan on showering more than once a day. Then you'll be drying your self with damp/wet towel. The thing that really pissed me off you only get 2 toilet papers per day, thats it you cant and they wont give more. With 3 of us in room it impossible, need to undersand the toilet paper is a single layer stuff, really thin. Theres A/C only in the bed room, dont bring your kids to suffer in the humid living room.
