While Saint-Martin-Sur-Oust itself is a small, quiet village, the best area to stay for most visitors is within the village or in the immediate surrounding countryside, particularly for those interested in the Nantes-Brest Canal.

The village center offers a convenient base, especially for those looking to explore the canal by bicycle or kayak. You'll find a few local guesthouses and a small selection of eateries. The main draw here is direct access to the canal towpath, which runs directly through the village, making it easy to start a day of exploration. For couples seeking a relaxed, nature-focused getaway, staying close to the canal provides easy access to scenic walks and boat trips.

For families, staying in one of the gites or holiday homes just outside the village, often with larger gardens, can be an excellent option. These accommodations provide more space and privacy, while still being a short drive or bike ride from the canal and village amenities.

The best time to visit Saint-Martin-Sur-Oust is during the summer months, from June to August, when the weather is mild and pleasant, making it ideal for outdoor activities.

During this period, the average daily temperature hovers around a comfortable 20-25°C (68-77°F). The longer daylight hours—often extending until 10 PM—provide ample time for exploring the Oust River and its surroundings. Couples will appreciate the opportunities for leisurely boat trips, cycling along the canal towpaths, and enjoying meals at waterside restaurants.

Spring (April to May) and early autumn (September to October) also offer good conditions, with fewer crowds and cooler temperatures, typically ranging from 15-20°C (59-68°F). This shoulder season is particularly appealing for travelers who prefer a more tranquil experience. The natural beauty of the area, with blooming flowers in spring or changing leaves in autumn, adds to the appeal for those seeking scenic walks or photography opportunities.

While winter (November to March) is generally cooler and wetter, with temperatures often between 5-10°C (41-50°F), it can still be a good time for travelers looking for a quiet retreat.
