Some months of the year are not so busy as June and guests have a broader choice of units.

A pesky bug population is not one of the nice things about Florida and we are very sorry that you found a bug in your unit. I know how unpleasant that is and I want to assure that we try in many ways to prevent such experiences for our guests. Controlling insect pests is something we have to work hard on in Florida, and we do have regular professional exterminating service. Unfortunately, the rains in this late-summer season cause bugs to seek shelter inside and can also wash away pesticide treatments. We will continue to explore alternatives and to do everything we can to deal with this issue.

In the old days, salt and pepper were left in the kitchen, but people feel differently about such sharing in current times. In my pre-arrival messages, I pass on the tip from another returning guest: tuck favorite coffee, a picnic salt and pepper, and some plastic bags into a suitcase. I think I will also try taking a small roll of aluminum foil out of its box and tucking it down in my suitcase! We certainly look forward to seeing you next time you need a no stress getaway!

I’m sorry we did not meet your expectations, Juan. This has been an extremely busy year with a lot of wear and tear on our property. Thank your letting us know about your 5 star experience at Casa del Mar, Jennifer. We are so glad that you plan to return, and that you were happy with our location on the beach, our staff and the surrounding area. That wonderful staff you mention would have been so glad to walk right over to your unit with cooking utensils if you had called or stopped by the office to let them know. I am sorry for that disappointment; utensils and such seem to wander to other units and to the grill area, so missing kitchen supplies are a challenge for us and for our guests. Mattresses are another challenge. I checked with the manager about the newly remodeled 14F’s mattress and it is less than a year old. The problem seems to be that it is so plush that it must be too soft for some people. I hope that when you come back to us, another unit will have a mattress that is more “medium” or “firm” and comfortable for your night’s rest. I am glad you had a wonderful vacation and hope that your next visit will be even more wonderful!

Thank you for taking time to let us know about your stay with us, Nina. Florida health department laws prohibit food and beverages on the “pool wet deck” area—within 4 feet of the pool. Water bottles are allowed beyond 4 feet and most people find that works for keeping hydrated. I am sorry if that wasn’t clear. I am also sorry that laundry became a burden for you. Though some guests are used to the hotel practice of offering unlimited towels distributed at the pool, it is customary for condominiums to provide washers and dryers instead. It is good to hear that your unit was pleasing and we appreciate your feedback.

We are so sorry that bugs intruded on your vacation, Calogera. Controlling insect pests is something we have to work hard on in Florida, and we do have regular professional exterminating service. Summer weather brings out the no-see-ums (also called biting gnats or midges) in coastal areas, mostly at dawn and dusk. Unfortunately, the rains in this late-summer season cause larger bugs to seek shelter inside and can also wash away pesticide treatments. I have shared your experience with our general manager and he is going to investigate and problem-solve regarding the sofa and the entry point you saw near the door. I am glad that you were moved to a new unit after your trouble. We appreciate your kind words about the beauty of our property, easy access to the pool and beach, and the convenience of a full condominium. Thank you for bringing the down-side to our attention, so that we can do everything we can to deal with the issues you encountered.

I was glad to see that you found our property to be beautiful and clean, and I can really understand your frustration about the umbrella experience. I spoke to our manager about this and he agrees that a refund seems right in the case of those two days last week when umbrella installation was called off due to winds ranging above 18 miles an hour. We are trying to work out better ways to manage the logistics of umbrella payment and to protect our guests from both too much sun exposure and injuries from flying umbrellas. In the meantime, could you get back to me through the message center so that we can arrange a refund?
