Fabulous owners and fabulous hotel!!
I was put in this hotel by hotels.com as there were issues with one I had booked…. Came away wishing I had stayed here in the first place! The couple who own the hotel were absolutely delightful and my spontaneous arrival at 10pm was not a problem. They sat and had a chat at the bar with me while I had a well deserved wine and were great company. New arrivals to the local community and very keen to get the locals through the doors of the restaurant. The room I stayed in was beautiful, very spacious with a huge bathroom and private veranda. The room was not overlooked at all so shutting the curtains was optional. The room had glass doors along one side so natural light filled the room…. I was old love to return in summer months and stay in a similar room because drinks and food on the veranda would be a lovely way to spend the evening. The place was spotlessly clean. The TV was a good size and the bed/pillows were super comfy…. Often a gripe in hotels when you travel around a lot, a good nights sleep is the most important part of the stay and this hotel certainly delivered. I didn’t try the food because of my late arrival but would definitely stay to eat next time.

Excellent. Highly recommended
I love this hotel. Have stayed here numerous times over the past several months on business. It is in a lovely location with nice grounds. It is very comfortable and the food is very nice. New Italian menu launched and from what I’ve tasted it is very good. Most of all the staff are all brilliant, so friendly and so helpful. Would highly recommend this hotel.

My boyfriend and I absolutely loved our stay here. The staff were so friendly (especially the lady who greeted us at the front desk and took our orders for dinner - she was amazing and clearly took such pride in her job), the room was lovely, the gardens were beautiful, and they had a huge vegan menu for dinner! We would absolutely stay again.

The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The room was perfect with a flair of the Scottish Borders. Convenient to everything we intended to do. For a smaller property they had an exceptional breakfast and dinner menu quite fitting to the location.

What an awesome hotel. I stayed in a garden room which has a great amount of space, is spotlessly clean and very comfortable bed. The staff were really friendly and helpful and made the stay an absolute delight. I'd love to stay their again.

Door banging from underneath our room was irritating. Coffe/ tea were on a tray which had to be lifted up for use & kettle had to be plugged in on the bedside chest or on the floor

Very clean and comfortable
Very clean and well kept. The only issues we had were a dirty teaspoon on the hospitality tray in the bedroom and the fact that the bathroom description included a bidet. We didn't have one. Not a deal-breaker but inaccurate. Dinner and breakfast were very good and staff were pleasant. The grounds are beautiful. We'd stay again.

Lovely stay at the Philipburn Hotel. It’s a hidden gem in Selkirk with lovely gardens, beautiful and spacious rooms for families that even had a patio to sit out. The restaurant was really nice and cosy and although we never had dinner at the hotel we did have breakfast which was really nice. The staff were very friendly and nothing was a bother.

Definitely recommend this hotel
We stayed for 2 nights when they had just reopened- it was really quiet - well organised for COVID restrictions- lacked atmosphere as there were very few people around - not their fault! Could have a drink in the beer garden - which is stunning. Food very good, service excellent and staff very friendly. Plenty of good walking trails straight from the hotel. Wishing them very good wishes when restrictions are lifted.

Eagerly Anticipated Break Missed
Had to give some ratings on previous screen, as unfortunately we were unable to take up our booking at the last minute. On the day of our proposed stay, our severely disabled son took epileptic seizures and we obviously had to care for him. My wife called the cancellation number to advise of our inability to fulfil the booking. It is unfortunate that our inability to take up an eagerly anticipated break due to the above reason, and thereby forfeit the full cost of the break, is equated with those instances where people simply change their mind and don't turn up. We will therefore have to give careful consideration to booking anywhere in advance in future in case our son suffers a similar situation.

Nice country style hotel
Late check in, staff friendly and efficient. Nice room,very comfy bed, good shower and bathroom. Only niggle was tea making facilities-could only seem to plug kettle in and leave on the floor and coffee sachets felt old and dried out (crunchy and stuck together) however tasted ok

We chose this hotel to be near to family and it was a great choice . Beautifully situated on the outskirts of Selkirk,with walks by the river and Selkirk itself. Our room was warm and had everything we needed including peace and quiet.The parking and access was good .The staff that we met were friendly and helpful.We would definitely stay again.
