A super competitive hotel based on location, 1930s historical buildings and garden, price, and services. About 3 minutes walk to main subway lines and one of the major streets in city center Hengshan road. Surrounded by beautiful alleys to discover local lifestyles. 1-2 minutes walk to Yongpingli where has different flavors of western restaurants. An approximately $10 per person breakfast is a must try. You will get both very authentic Shanghai and general western dishes. The entire property is clean and comfortable. Staffs are friendly and helpful.

5 minute walk to the Metro. In a quiet neighborhood. Staff was friendly but with limited English (although better than other hotels I stayed in China). Room had a view of Pudong Skyscrapers when there was no smog. Great breakfast.

Couldn't find the hairdryer, so not sure if there is one. The heating switched itself off midnight for some reason but came back on afterwards. Otherwise, love the small and cosy room with a balcony. The bed was great!

Overall a great location. Somewhat disappointed in the accommodations, compared to previous locations in the city for comparable prices, but there were some issues with housekeeping and management concerns: 1) Upon checking in, my room had a half-used bottle of body wash. 2) While the hotel provided currency exchange, no receipts were provided to enable a reverse exchange.

I'm quite regularly in China and thought I would try out a new accommodation. Anting Villa is half the price of where I normally stay and a nicer Hotel. Good breakfast as well.

Well placed, stylish hotel
Impressive exterior and entrance. Placed near 2 metro stations and a handful of bars, restaurants. Some reception staff are able to speak English. TV and movie options were limited, and the gym didn't open until 9am. A little late for those who want to get out and explore. Very good and reasonably priced breakfast buffet.

This hotel is nice, comfortable and convenient. The staff is friendly and very helpful. Many staff members speak English. The hotel is within walking distance of a metro station as well as entertainment venues.

I will stay at Anting Villa Hotel again
A native of Shanghai, I now live in New York City. I stayed at Anting Hotel for 7 days. The place is located in a city center, bars, shops and subway. The hotel restaurant offers yummy Shanghai-style-buffet-breakfast. They also have tea room. Door mans and services were descent. The room is small, 12 sqt. maybe, but the bed is very comfortable. The first 2 nights, there were noise from the streets construction during 2 - 4:30 AM. On 8/6/2017, I was awaken at 2 AM by loud noise again. I called the front desk and I was told that the hotel had no control of the noise. It was a city project. I am a media receptor, I went to the street, photo/video the situation. I obviously did not sleep well that day. The next day, after my complaining, the hotel manager changed my room and awarded me 5 breakfast tickets. Over all, this is a very nice hotel. I will stay there again.

Great stay in Shanghai
Anting Villa is a wonderful little Chinese-style hotel, with many homey touches and superb service. Rooms are on the small side, but cozy. Breakfast is wonderful, and there's even a gym. The hotel is set in an elegant park, adjacent to a pair of old mansions in the former French Concession. Many restaurants and shops are within walking distance, as well as at least two subway stations on three different lines.

Chinese Hotel in Garden District
This is a good Chinese managed hotel in the heart of Xujiahui area near all the consulates in Shanghai. It's a VERY quiet location in one of the more expensive neighborhoods in Shanghai. Lot's of architectural heritage homes within a few blocks. It's a great way to experience Shanghai that isn't so touristy. The building is older and you can see wear and tear but it's well constructed also. You will see every night large numbers of wealthy Chinese having dinners in the compounds buildings. Rooms are smaller than more modern hotels, but I think no one would be disappointed here. Staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast is on the cheaper side for all the food you get compared to Element Fresh or other local eateries. I do recommend walking to Xujiahui Park and giong for a stroll to experience the local life. There's a good English Pub on one side of the park too. It's about a 15 minute walk away. If you want less tourism and more of a local flavor, this would be one of your better choices in a hotel.

Lovely hotel but poor service
My flight was delayed and I checked in after midnight. I was given a room in the opposite building across the lawn. There was only one guy at the front desk and zero butler service, so I had to carry my luggage myself. Realized to my horror that building had no elevator. I was assigned the second level, still, it was 2 flights of stairs.

Shanghai can easily overwhelm. ANTING VILLA HOTEL provides a lovely, comfortable retreat in the leafy, pedestrian friendly Former French Concession. There are many restaurants & bars nearby.

It was exactly what I had hoped for in a stay with my girlfriend. The hotel is quaint, the grounds are beautiful, and the old French feel left me feeling as it we were immersed in an earlier and simpler time. It was a perfect romantic get away and a great place to be located for our further explorations in the magnificent city that is Shanghai.

Neat place in the central of the city
Because the area was French settlement in shanghai 80 something years ago. The building is mainly French style with Chinese elements. the room is nice and cozy. The facility is bit old but comfortable. The staff is ok, although there is some small incidence but overall is still up to the class. Would like to go back next time in shanghai.
