The reception took our passports upon arrival and without asking for permission, scanned the barcodes of our passports in a machine identical to "the passport reading/scanning" that only police or immigration officers use in international airports or police stations.
We told the reception that it is highly innapropriate and illegal for a hotel to extract that way information from the passport and save it in their basic computer system (and without permission).
The reception advised us that they will refuse to give us our room keys although we had prepaid in advance with expedia (and came by plane from another country.
The reception told us that we have paid expedia, and we had not paid the hotel.
We were shocked. I insited to talk to the manager, but the manager refused to come out of the office to explain why we were threatened to not get our room keys. After insisting , we got the keys.
They made us sign a form that got automatically filled in with our personal information during barcode passport scanning. According to reception, if we refused to sign it, then we were not going to get the room keys.
İt was extremely shocking and rediculous.
Upon check out, the reception had a strange procedure " the hotel verifies online if the client is safe to check out and allowed to leave the hotel."
İt sounded as we were not in EU, but we were in the eastern block before 90's.
The rooms were very clean and spacious, the breakfast was very good and it has a great location.
