View of the bay with the “bouchot mussel poles”. This farming technique is predominantly used in France: ropes carrying young mussels are placed on vertical poles in the intertidal area. As the mussels grow they move onto the pole where they will grow until they reach their commercial size. #OpalCoast #Trovember
This is a unique piece in Europe: a WW II Krupp K5 railway gun (type "Leopold"). The K5 could project a 250 kg shell up to almost 70 km and could fire 15 rounds per hour. #OpalCoast (Most notorious during WW II are the two guns of Eisenbahnbatterie 712. To support the defence of the Gustav Line [Italy], the two K5 were sent to the area around Anzio where they arrived just after the Allied landings. These two guns were nicknamed Anzio Annie and Anzio Express by the Americans.) #History
