The Zambezi River is classified as Grade 5 which per The British Canoe Union has classified the river Grade 5 “extremely difficult, long and violent rapids, steep gradients, big drops and pressure areas." The Zambezi river has been internationally claimed as the worlds best and safest river to raft in. The river is very deep, and there is no exposed rock in the rapids or in the pools below the rapids. This experience was one of the most adrenaline rushing, exhilarating and exciting adventures that everyone should have on their bucket list. We rafted in the middle of the season where the river was not too high or too low. Due to the waters we rafted from rapid 11 through rapid 23 which was a total of 13km long. They say that during the low waters you start from rapid 1 and the rapids are more extreme. We hope to return and experience this in the future. All the rapids have names and we got to experience about five Grade 5's and the rest where Grade 3's and 4's. Getting in and out of the canyon is a hike and tiring after rafting for nearly two hours. Overall the experience was amazing and a must do for all those adventure seekers of all age groups (15 years old and above). We used Adventure Zone for our white water rafting experience as they were well organised, friendly and safety was a propriety throughout the whole experience.

Tip: Be sure to wear closed sandals that have support and grip. We used our Keens which I would say are the best for this type of adventure on the raft and while trekking in/out of the gorge.
