Charming Medieval House with piano & Big Garden, in idyllic Todi

This is a fabulous house that dates back to the 13th century, as witnessed by a Romanesque lion's head still in the facade. It has been entirely renovated (with suggestions and designs by the great sculptor Beverly Pepper). It is inside the town walls, about 5 min. walk from the main square, so it is conveniently located in terms of shopping. I mean why come to Italy and isolate yourselves in a rural farmhouse? May as well stay in Palo Alto (they tell me the landscape is very similar). We wanted to enjoy living amongst the Italians and that is why we chose this house. And yet it is very private and quiet because it is flanked by the apse of the church of S. Prassede on the south-west side, and has a 1,200 sq.ft. garden in front. Built on four floors, all the windows on the living room and bedroom levels have great views of the valley below and the Martani mountains directly east. And we have installed a Daikin AC system in all the bedrooms.

Todi is smack in the center of Umbria, one of Italy's most beautiful and artistic regions, so it's not far from any of the other wondrous hill towns in the region. (It is much less touristy than neighboring Tuscany.) Todi has about 9,000 inhabitants, with very little industry and rolling hills and farm land all around. It is set on top of a hill, 480 meters above sea level, and is primarily medieval in its architectural make-up.

Another good reason for being in town, apart from enjoying concerts at the theater, exhibitions, cocktails on the square, is the BEST ICE CREAM in the world (as verified by many of our guests).
Yes, the Bar Pianegiani, a 10-min. walk up the street. We can also help you participate in a cooking class with the chef who will come to the house, cook the meal and serve it to you. Great fun! You will find shelves of guide books and a green folder with lots of suggestions of things to do and places to visit.

Oh yes, the Wi-Fi is free!

Not many properties in Todi with such views and with a 400 sq. meter garden inside the city walls. During the cold months we ask that gas and electricity be reimbursed (as well as wood if any is used in the fireplaces). During summer rentals only the electricity will be charged. Both are metered. The City of Todi levies a tourist tax of €1.5 per person for a maximum of 4 nights. We will collected this at the end of your stay.

Stay in Todi
We were met at the airport by Stephano (connected with him thru George). We also rented a car from Stephano. We had a pleasant drive to Todi and learned some history of the area. when we arrived at the house the cleaning lady was ill so there was a substitute. She may have felt some pressure since we arrived early. Stephan showed us around the house, which is lovely. George was always available for my many questions. George and his wife had everything we needed for our stay in their house or they made sure we would get what we needed. We had 2 couples and the house worked out well for us. The house was in a great location and could walk easily to the town square of course going up inclines and visit the sites of Todi. We would have breakfast every morning at the house and then venture out to another hill town to explore. We would come back to the house in late afternoon and enjoy the use of the patio in backyard and sip on wine, deciding where to go to dinner or have snacks and enjoy the view at the house. My only regret is not seeing George's photographs at a gallery and the Painted House right up the street from George's house. M.A.

Thank you George!
Wonderful warm and welcoming house. We were so lucky to meet the host! The house had no feeling of a commercialized rental- just a home where you belong, everything at your fingertips plus a gorgeous view, that makes you want to stay forever. Thank you again!

Incredible host, house and location
The host was the most communicative that I have ever experienced. He sent informational emails before Check-in, excellent Check-in directions, and checked in with during our stay. A book with recommendations was on hand as was an email sent on arrival with links to suggested places to visit. The house itself is rustic and authentic. The town is beautiful. We had great food, gelato and coffee. With the steep hike up to the piazza and walking the town, the food had no effect on our waistlines. Day trips included a Roman ruin, winery and other small hill top towns. Only caution is the streets are narrow and driving is a challenge.

Charm in Todi
First of all, the owner was wonderfully helpful in linking me to a local car rental, which not only allowed us to bypass the chaos of an airport rental but also provided transportation from Firenze to Todi. This ride even included an educational side trip to the local supermarket prior to check-in. The apartment is charming; with comfortable beds and living room furniture, a spacious and well-appointed kitchen, and wonderful views from the second story. My only caveat to future guests is that in September the large fig tree which overhangs much of the garden is dropping its fruit on the lawn and patio.

Beautiful 13th century house
We enjoyed our stay in this charming house in Todi, Umbria. Although there were only the two of us staying, it is a huge house with room for a large family. There are wonderful views over the surrounding countryside from all levels plus a garden for outdoor eating - also with great views. Kitchen is well equipped and bedrooms have air conditioning. It is a relaxing place to stay and a short walk (10 to 15 mins) up to the town centre where you can get everything you need. The character of such an historical house makes it an interesting place to stay. The owner was very helpful, as was the housekeeper who met and showed us around on our arrival. A great place to explore the surrounding villages.

Very Special and Unique House
You really couldn't find a more comfortable and "classy" house to stay in during a visit to the medieval town of Todi. Although the outside walls appear to be part of a medieval castle, it has been completely modernized inside. Also special is the outside garden where we sat for dinner more than once. The inside is nicely decorated and warmly furnished. We also found the host, George, to be extremely helpful and responsive and found all of his recommendations to be spot on. Location-wise, the house is ideal. It is within walking distance to the main piazza and we easily explored the entire town walking the narrow streets. We have already recommended this property to some of our friends and family.

Peaceful historic get-away
Beautiful, lovingly restored historic home had all the amenities for a carefree stay. Our very gracious host was most welcoming and always accessible; he provided us with a wealth of information about nearby events and all the guide books you will ever need for exploring the region. He recommended renting a car which we found indispensable; parking is provided. We spent most of our down-time in the peaceful garden with roses and geraniums flowering all around us. If you are looking for hotel-style showers or have issues with stairs this would be a challenge but, you will miss out on all of the charm of this historic home and our host's warm and generous welcome!

Incredible medieval house, awesome host
Very rainy for our stay, so, sadly, we didn’t get to enjoy the gorgeous garden. Comfortable home located a short walk down the very steep and narrow streets from the central piazza. A fabulous perk - a parking space nearby is included. We had a great time in this comfortable medieval home but what truly made it a 5-star experience was the help before, during, and even after our stay from George the thoughtful and communicative host.

A week in Umbria
Great location in beautiful old town. Short drive to all the major sites. We were on the go every day and had a different experience each day. Wine tasting in La Bruna and another day in Spello. Lunch alongside the lake and driving the twisty roads to Piano Grande. The waterfalls, Assisi, Gubio, Orvieto and of course Perugia. The weather cooperated and enjoyed i9t all.

Fabulous!
My husband and I had a fantastic experience in Todi. We had been to Umbria before and knew exactly where we wanted to be. Todi was the perfect base from which to take day trips to nearby hill towns. The house was beautiful and comfortable. There is an outdoor patio with a stunning view. It was quiet depite being right next to other homes. It is situated on the hill, in the old town. It was a short climb down the hill to the parking area, and a short (but steep) climb up the hill to the center where there were plenty of excellent restaurants, some with outdoor terraces with gorgeous views. I can't say enough nice things about George, the owner, who was so kind and helpful. He was out of town, but still communicated with us to ensure we had everything we needed. He put us in touch with Stefano, the owner of a local car rental business, and we arranged for the rental through him - something we would strongly recommend. Stefano offers the service of driving you to and from the airport, and orienting you to the town and the driving routes in and out of Todi, which were a bit tricky because of construction. He was communicative and an absolute pleasure to work with. Overall, highly recommend!

Todi
Location was wonderful! It was quiet and within walking distance (uphill) to the charming town center. George was great to communicate with during our booking and Annamaria checked us in efficiently, waiting patiently for our arrival as traffic made us later than expected. The apartment is a bit dark, so more lighting would be helpful. We were very comfortable and even hired a chef to come in and prepare a wonderful meal for us. Todi has some wonderful restaurants and cafe's so it wasn't necessary to leave the village to find meals. Streets are very narrow so driving a large vehicle isn't recommended. George does provide parking and we just left our car there and walked everywhere. We are all in our 70's and managed quite well.

Two Wonderful Weeks In Todi
We have recently returned from spending two weeks in this roomy historical home in Todi. The home provided plenty of room for our multi generational family to gather and enjoy the beauty and charm of Umbria. George was a perfect host who welcomed us warmly. The home was comfortably furnished, The beds and linens were especially nice. The outside garden, where we ate several meals, overlooked a quintessential Italian countryside view. Hot afternoons we played an Italian card game around the cool kitchen table. Todi itself is a gem full of friendly restaurants with excellent food, several cafes for morning coffee and outstanding gelato. All in all this home and town added up to a wonderful vacation for all of us that I would recommend to anyone who is looking for true Italian experience.

Perfect place to stay in magical Todi
We were met outside of town by the owners who brought us to the property, helped us unload and showed us the handy parking location. The website photos cannot capture the beauty of this property. On top of that, George and Lynn are two of the most gracious hosts you will ever meet. (After we left we realized that a clothing article had been forgotten. George let us know that as were passing through town the next week that we could retrieve the article in a cafe in the main square. Sure enough, there was a bag with our name on it. What a guy!). Spacious, open floor plan on all three levels plus a beautiful yard with three levels. A complete kitchen/dining area that surpassed expectations. Multiple terraces to enjoy the sunrises and birdsong. We are definitely planning on returning.

Beautiful Villa near town square
What makes this villa exceptional is the host George and the location. From the moment we booked his home George was helping us plan our Umbrian trip. His best advice was suggesting Stefano to pick us up in Rome and rent us a car for our trip. Stefano's GPS parking locations were also extremely helpful. George's home made us feel like locals. We loved to sit out back in his rose garden watching the sunset over the Umbrian countryside. It is also a 5 minute walk to the Todi square and the most fun was drinking our spritz at night with the locals. The home is extremely comfortable and George checked in with us several times asking if we needed anything to make our stay better. We were sad to leave but knew it will not be our last stay in George's villa.

I can describe how beautiful Todi is and the amazing old home charm, but what really set this property apart was the owner. George went above and beyond to make sure we felt welcome. He even had a bed brought down from the top level to the bottom floor to make it easier for my mom so she didn't have to climb as many steps. He helped us get a private guide, in home chef/cooking lesson, and connected us with Stefano for airport transportation and a car. Stefano not only picked us up, but gave us some driving tips and took us to the local supermarket to show us the best brands and how things worked. The house had a lot of charm. The kitchen was well equipped and we had lots of bath towels. Two fireplaces, etc... Only negative is the hill to get to town. It was fine for those 61 years & under, but for the older in our group they didn't love it.

Historic house and setting with an Italian authenticity
This is a charming medieval town house close to the historic centre of Todi, a grand citadel high on the hill above the Umbrian countryside. The house is largely unaltered, but comfortable, with stunning views. The towering church next door, the steep alleyway outside and the delightful twittering of housemartins above, just add to its beauty. Highly recommended.

We were charmed by the lovely, spacious home in beautiful Todi. We enjoyed the yard in the morning before taking off for the day. Waking up to the birds singing and the sunrise were two things we never got tired of. Comfy beds and bathrooms made for a very pleasant stay for 4 adults. We enjoyed the living room in the evening before going to dinner. All in all a very rare opportunity to stay in a very special place. We all highly recommend this place. PS Owner George made sure all was well during our stay, calling us when we arrived and checking in with us when we were leaving.

Excellent Vacation
Hello, our family of 6 (2 adults and 4 kids) had a wonderful 12 day stay that this house in Todi. The layout worked well for our family, the garden was very pretty and we appreciated the very well stocked kitchen. We felt like we were in someone's home and not a rental which was something we really appreciated. While it could be hot outside, it was generally very cool inside with the stone floors and AC and fans available. Todi was the perfect size town. The house is a 5 minute very steep walk to the piazza, which we appreciated so we could eat more pasta and tons of delicious food options. People were very welcoming in the town and there was plenty to explore in the area. George made us feel very welcome and constantly checked in on our stay. He also forwarding us invitations to events in Todi and we ended up buying two paintings at an art opening he invited us to. The house does have a lot of stairs and is at the base of a steep hill so if you have mobility issues that would be an issue. Also, it is great having a dedicated parking space but don't get too big of a car with your traditional medieval town streets. We all loved the place, working with George and would definitely stay here again.

Charming home in a wonderful town
This was our first time in Todi and we fell in love with the town for the amazing restaurants, and views, and overall vibe. It doesn’t feel like it’s been completely taken over by tourists! Our first night we walked to the main Piazza and grabbed Pizza and wine to go and we’re able to catch a soccer game that the town was hosting in the Piazza. Regarding the home, it was exactly as pictured and we were very comfortable. You must remember that the home is over 800 years old so the toilets are quite “Italian” and all of the linens are hung dry (so don’t expect the towels to be soft and fluffy) but we quickly adjusted. George, the host, and Stefano, who picked us up and provided a car, we’re both wonderful. I can easily say that the service or “contact with guests” was exceptional. George made himself very available for questions and gave great tips. If you are looking for a well-equip charming traditional Italian home in a gorgeous midsize hill town this is the spot.

Beautiful charming house perfectly situated near the main piazza.
The owner George is ever so helpful and responsive. He made it possible for us to plan our holiday and make our stay perfect. One of the highlights was picking the figs from the fig tree in the garden and having it for breakfast. Perfectly situated near the town centre we could walk everywhere. The caffe in the southwest corner of the piazza Popolo serves the best macchiato.
