The apartment was spacious and clean, and the building overall felt well kept. The free shuttle was a real lifesaver, since you really can’t get around here without a car (no Uber in the area). Some things weren’t so great though. The shower head holes were too small, so the water hit like bullets on your skin. The curtain kept coming loose, the sink cover was broken, lighting was poor, the stove was very slow, and there weren’t enough toilets/bathroom facilities. No cleaning service during the stay either. Even with those issues, the room size, cleanliness, and shuttle service made a big difference. For that reason, I’d still give it 4 out of 5 stars.

Great location, fantastic chef/owner who is very personable and always cares about the patrons. Been returning to this hotel for the past 8 years. The food, wine pairing are incredible reflecting the talent and the passion of the owner. Wonderful Baden-Württemberg in southwest Germany, on the edge of the Black Forest. Spa and pool complete the package and its location ideal for a short stop to continue travel to France, north or south Germany or for spending a few days exploring Freiburg.

Popular places to visit

Lac Blanc, the upper of two glacial lakes in the Voges Alsace France. This is the “white” lake at 1050m altitude with an awesome 300m hiking possibility straight up bouldering for an awesome view. The “black” lake, Lac Noir is a little smaller and at an altitude of 950m also a nice walk to combine the two. Good pauzing possibilities wit huts and Auberges for drinks, resting and something good to eat as well. Both are now used for hydro-power-generation so unfortunately swimming is not allowed.

At the time of year we visited the grapes still had a lot of growing time left but you could see vineyards for miles around from the top.
