The Hayward was a decent hotel near the U of O. One of the major shortcomings though is that they have 3 story buildings with only stairs followed by interior hallways that aren't air conditioned. And because most of the ground level is for parking, the vast majority of the rooms are upstairs. When you're traveling with bags, that's a real hassle. The rooms themselves are pretty standard.

It's a very basic hotel. If you need a place to say overnight, it works. Sadly the staff wasn't welcoming or friendly. When I went to check in I wasn't greeted or acknowledged. It was an odd stare-off until I said, I'm here to check in. Same experience (different people) when I checked out the next day. There was no how was your stay, no thank you, or anything. I get it's Oregon and everyone tries real hard to be weird and cool (keep trying), but basic professionalism at a hotel is important. I prefer to support smaller businesses but when they don't care their business, why should anyone else. I probably won't book this place again. I feel there are other hotels that offer better service and value for what you pay here.

We had to check-in super late and they were very accommodating, and I could tell they had just one of them just woke up to check us in. It's kind of old school check-in. So everything was written down, and I think put in later, but they were really nice elderly couple.
