Ylläs Ski Resort
A vast expanse of slopes and trails await at Ylläs Ski Resort. Snake your way down pistes and head off the track to discover empty hills and untouched powder. Test your stamina on a cross-country skiing trek and spend hours perfecting your airs and grinds at a snowboard park.
Ylläs Ski Resort is the site of Lännenleveä, one of the broadest slopes in the country. Overall, there are 38 slopes, including four black runs and five green runs. Very experienced skiers may want to head to the off-piste areas either side of the slopes. For intermediates, there are 13 red and 16 blue runs.
Go farther afield with some cross-country skiing across miles of trails. Along the way, stop for refreshments at one of the cafés dotted throughout the area.
If you are a freestyler, experience the thrill of small jumps and other activities at either the Fun Park or Junior Park. If you have brought young children with you, enjoy some time on the family slopes, which are situated next to the forest.
Learn how to slalom and improve your skills at the ski school. After the sun goes down, lace up your boots for skiing on one of the 20 illuminated slopes.
There are more slopes to explore at Sport Resort Ylläs, the ski resort on the other side of the main fell in Ylläs. You can get there by taking the 15-minute shuttle bus ride. Among the attractions at Sport Resort Ylläs is the sauna gondola. Relax with a 20-minute steam session while taking in the views of Ylläs as you travel in a gondola to 2,356 feet (718 meters) above sea level.
Ylläs Ski Resort is next to Äkäslompolo village, about a 1-hour drive from Kittila Airport. You can also reach Ylläs by bus from here. The ski season runs from October to May and an added attraction is the Northern Lights. This spectacular natural phenomenon is a common sight in the night sky above Ylläs from January to March.
