Loved staying here

Our family loved staying at the Hawks Nest Hideout. The location was great and offered a spot to explore the state park across the street and New River Gorge National Park nearby. The host was very responsive, the house was clean, and we would definitely stay again.

Great house

Loved the location of being across the street from the state park. Fayetteville not too far away for dinner. Kitchen had everything we needed and there was a grill out back. Nice house, location, and great communication with the owners. Excellent stay!

Cute place and reasonably priced

Loved that the house is close to so many state parks, trails and towns like Fayetville.We were able to bring our small dog with us where he was comfortable there as opposed to a hotel. However, the house is very close to a busy road (60) so we were careful not to let him run out without a leash.

Perfect location

This little cottage was perfectly located for us to explore the Gauley, Summerville, and New River Gorge area. Plus the views from Hawks Nest were amazing. We started each morning with a cup of coffee on the porch swing before heading out, grilled burgers one evening, and crashed on the couch together for a movie to end the day. Thank you! We will recommend this place to anyone we know visiting the area.

Old house with basic decor. Not "white glove" clean but maybe I'm fussy. Comfortable beds and well equipped with supplies and the usual amenities. Location can't be beat - across the street from Hawks Nest State Park, with hiking trails, gift shop and overlooks to rival the New River Gorge National Park, a 15 minute drive away.

Perfect location, cozy home!

We had a great stay. We were able to easily walk across the street and see the amazing Hawks Nest views, and we ate dinner at the restaurant there overlooking the river. It was a pretty quick drive over to the Canyon Rim visitor center at New River Gorge, and we spent the day hiking and fishing in the park. Outside of the occasional car driving by, nighttime was pleasantly dark and quiet (a welcome change for us city dwellers). There was a nice, large dining table for evening board games (we brought our own, but the house has several good ones as well!), and I would definitely stay here again. It's the ideal location for exploring the nearby parks. Also recommend checking out the nearby Freefolk Brewery Taproom! Great atmosphere, dog friendly, good beers, and tasty food.

Beautiful location - no phone service

Our phone service is Verizon, which had no signal in the area and no internet signal. So if you need to touch base with the owner for early check-in go down the road just a little bit to the lodge and connect to their public internet. The cabin is very cute and the location is great, but not on the water like we had thought from the pictures. About 2 hours into our stay (1 night) the power went out for only 10 seconds, but the internet never came back. Touched base with owner and she put in a call, but it did not come back for our trip and we had no cell service. However, if you stand on one leg on the porch and aim your phone towards the Hawks Nest Lodge while wishing really hard, you could get a small signal and message the owner on the app 🤣

We loved this charming little house across the street from Eagle's Nest Park. It was very comfortable for us to stay and enjoy the area. It was close to town as well as hiking and rafting. Highly recommend!

Great location

The property is located right across from Hawks Nest State Park. The neighborhood is quiet. You can sit on the front porch or out back on the patio or up by the fire pit. We saw deer, birds and heard a fox at night. The house is clean, comfortable and the kitchen is well-equipped. The beds are very comfortable. Great drawer and closet space too! The owner responded almost immediately to any questions we had. The only suggestion would be not to list it as on a river. The river is across the street in the state park. A special shout out for Brenda, the manager of the Hawks Nest Gift Shop a few minutes down the road. She was sweet to our dog and very nice to us. The shop has wonderful souvenirs to take back home for family and friends, and yourself too!

Perfect Getaway

We had a wonderful trip and there were so many things to see and do in the area. I would definitely recommend anybody wanting to see waterfalls and beautiful scenery to rent this cabin. It was centrally located to everything we wanted to do.

Hidden Gem

This house is directly across the road from the lodge and restaurant of Hawk’s Nest State Park. The backyard actually sits against state park lines and there are a few trails right across the road. The area has great views and being in a single family home was wonderful once we arrived with a spacious living room and dining room, board games and comfortably heated! The yard and land were also very spacious and great to walk around with the pups. Great host & will definitely recommend this place of beauty.

Excellent 2-night stay!

Everything that you need for a quiet comfortable getaway. Hawks Nest State Park is right across the street. Dollar General is 5 minutes away and has groceries. All cooking utensils are provided.

Mediocre

My least enjoyable VRBO rental, and I have rented many VRBO properties all over the country. Listing was not accurate. Says it has a Kerig , it does not. Says property is on the lake, it is not. You must drive several miles to get to Hawks Nest Lake. House is on the main road thru Ansted. Lots of traffic and lots of commercial trucks passing by making it noisy. Dishwashing soap and hand soap that is supplied is watered down. Went to Dollar General to buy our own soap . Kitchen cabinets were sticky to the touch. Microwave oven was dirty with splatters. Kitchen trash can dirty. Needed more kitchen supplies, especially cutting knifes . Sofa had dog hair on it and we did not bring our dogs. Except for Hawks Nest State Park across street the town of Ansted has nothing going for it.
