The old gold mining town Barberton, in Mpumalanga, South Africa, has lots of picturesque colonial buildings. It is worth a stop for a few days, when/if you are in the area. It is nicer and more fun than nearby Neilspruit.

"The owner explained everything when I arrived, and it was a pleasant experience. There were a lot of people staying over. Unfortunately I had to ask the people in room next to me to close their door, as they made a considerable noise. (The doors faced each other.)
