There's loads to do in Zona 13, but venture farther afield and you'll find even more magic. Organize a set of wheels and you can discover the surrounding region at your leisure. Add these awesome destinations to your itinerary:

• Quetzaltenango is 70 miles from Zona 13. Renowned tourist spots like Quetzaltenango Central Park should be at the top of your list here.
• Your next pit stop? Make it Santiago Atitlan, which is around 45 miles away. Atitlan Volcano is one local highlight you won't want to miss.
• Get out into nature and breathe in some fresh air at Rio Dulce. It's about 130 miles from Zona 13.

If you don't possess a driver's license issued in Guatemala, then you'll likely need to acquire an International Driving Permit (IDP) in your place of residence in order to rent a car. You should also be aware that if an IDP is required, it won't be valid on its own. You'll be asked to show your current license your passport and other forms of documentation as well. Lastly, make sure the credit card you used to book the rental matches the name on your license and passport. Some other things to note for international car rentals are:

• Age restrictions: You must be at least 25 in most countries to rent a car. If you're younger than that, it may still be possible to rent a car but you'll have to pay a Young Driver's Surcharge. Additional restrictions may also apply to the types of vehicles you can rent.
• Driving limitations: Be sure to read the rules and regulations before driving away. With rental cars, you usually can't cross country borders, drive on ferries or off road with a rental vehicle.
