Emerald Abode is awesome. Fantastic location...so close to world-class beaches, yet secluded up on the hill for peace, quiet and wonderful views. The pool was amazing. April was a lovely host. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat.

Clean, amazing view. Great host who had a welcoming present of cold beer and fresh fruit waiting in the fridge. Just be advised that the road up to the house is quite steep and best to have an ATV or car with 4x4 mode. The view is worth it!

Emerald Abode

I booked this beautiful property. Check in was very smooth and the property immaculate. Unfortunately, my friend had a family emergency and we could not stay the evening but I would highly recommend. The view is amazing and you cant find a vetter spot for sunsets in Santa Teresa

Home away from home

Perched on the hill above Santa Teresa, the Emerald Abode became our home away from home. Just off the main road, the leg-in driveway to the home is just steps from the beach access pathway. The infinity pool is so nice we found it difficult to choose to leave for the hustle and bustle of town. If you can drag yourself away from the Emerald Abode, try Shambala on the beach. They have excellent food and superb cocktails (try the Mezcal Tere). Finally, get to know April. She’s a sweetheart.

A beautiful piece of hillside heaven

Amazing! Highest house on the hill as far as we could tell :). Outdoor shower and kitchen were so nice in weather, a perfect place to relax and soak in the beach. Would give 6 stars if I could!

Absolute magic - Cannot wait to come back

Our stay at the Emerald Abode was truly unforgettable — pure magic from start to finish. My husband and I came to celebrate our 10-year anniversary, and we couldn’t have chosen a more perfect place.The house itself is a dream. It does take a little adjustment to the outdoor kitchen and semi-outdoor bathroom, but once you settle in, it feels like paradise. Waking up to the 180-degree ocean view every morning was breathtaking — pictures can’t do it justice. The privacy and view alone make it top notch.What made our stay even more special was April, the owner. She is incredibly kind, welcoming, and knowledgeable about the area. She had a bottle of rosé, fresh fruit, bread, and eggs waiting for us, which was such a thoughtful touch after our late arrival. Her hospitality made us feel instantly at home and very safe. Santa Teresa is a beautiful, laid-back town filled with lovely people and easy access to beaches, snorkeling, and wildlife preserves — we did a ton in the area but honestly, it was hard to tear ourselves away from the serenity of the Abode.We are already dreaming of coming back. It’s one of those places you almost don’t want to share so it can stay a hidden gem — but it deserves every bit of praise. Thank you, April, for making our 10-year anniversary so magical!

The perfect getaway! We were in awe for 10 days!

The Emerald Abode was everything we imagined and more. April provided everything we needed to make our stay perfect. We felt like we were in our own private little paradise. The plunge pool sunsets were the icing on the cake. We often found it hard to drag ourselves away from the Abode to the many adventures awaiting us in and around Santa Teresa. The beaches were breathtaking. The food was amazing when we chose to eat out and the people were lovely. We will forever treasure our memories of this truly special place. Pura Vida

Beautiful!!!

The Emerald Abode is an amazing way to explore Santa Teresa. It is located above the town with incredible views of the ocean. It is just far enough to get away from it all and close enough to easily experience the ocean, beach, and restaurants. The private pool is a perfect way to cool off in the afternoon. The host was incredibly responsive and was more than willing to accommodate our needs. Waking up to the ocean, exotic birds, and having coffee watching the howler monkeys may have been our favorite part! I really can't put into words how much we enjoyed our stay. We can't wait to go back!

What a view!

Even after going to all the beautiful beaches and on some engaging nature hikes, our favorite part of the day was returning to the Emerald Abode. There we would enjoy watching the sunset from the privacy of the pool. As a matter of fact during the four weeks that we spent at the Abode, we only missed three sunsets from the pool deck. Of course our experience was enhanced by the ever gracious and informative April. Her thoughtful assistance was greatly appreciated and very useful. David & Teri

Superb! Highly recommended

Everything just as shown/described on the advertisement and by other reviewers. April has ensured there is everything you could possibly need from beach towels and snorkel gear to the essential foods for when you arrive. She has her own property on the grounds but the house is totally private and secure. The pool is perfect for cooling off after a day’s trekking or being in the beach. The house allows for views of the sea from every room. Sunsets every night! I will miss that. We really enjoyed our evening swims gazing up at the stars after being out all day. House and location are perfect and April is the perfect host. The beach is a 10 minute walk away or 5 minute drive. You will need a 4 wheel drive not only for the Emerald Abode but for Santa Teresa. Highly recommend you choose to stay here if coming to the area. We plan to come back and stay longer next time and I wouldn’t choose anywhere other than Emerald Abode to stay. out all day.

Great Tropical Oasis

My husband and I were on our honeymoon. We picked April's place because of the beautiful view, the privacy, and safety. Any questions we had April was always there to help us out. She gave us lots of great suggestions for snorkeling. We checked in pretty late because of our flight time and traffic, but April was very accommodating. She had the fridge stoked with fresh fruit, eggs, bread to get us started for the first full day. She even left us a bottle of champagne, which was so very sweet of her. My husband and I enjoyed that on our first official night. Great time all around!

Everything about April and Emerald Abode was extraordinary and memorable!

From the moment we arrived, April made us feel special and well-taken care of. She thought of everything, including stocking the fridge with essentials, and offering insider tips on rum liqueur for amazing pina coladas! Her fount of knowledge about the area was so helpful- she has truly created a paradise for 2 in Emerald Abode. We tore ourselves away to ride horses, sail, hike and explore... but every evening we ended up in the plunge pool overlooking the pacific and looking up at the stars! An added attraction for us was as much doggie company as we wanted- loving, gentle and highly entertaining! If you’re thinking about going to CR, come here! You’ll thank us later...:)

Words can't say enough, you have to be there to know how amazing this place is. Simply magical! My wife and I has an amazing stay and April made it so special. She is there for anything you need. She wants to showcase her beautiful location in the Nicoya Peninsula and to make sure you have everything you need for a great visit. We couldn't stop just taking in the views We could have done more activities while we were there, but it was so nice just staying in and enjoying the place. She has tons of resources for her guests to help decide what activities are best, and she likes to have feedback to help with future recommendations. But pretty much all her recommendations were spot on for us. Thanks so much, April!

The Emerald Abode was a Perfect Stay

My husband and I stayed right after Christmas at the Emerald Abode. This was our first time in Santa Teresa and we loved every minute of it. The house was everything we wanted... Great view of the ocean, amazing sunsets, private pool, and and a kitchen to cook in. We are so happy that we were off the main road, since this was the height of the season and it was nice to be able to escape the crowds each night. The house was simply designed but had small elegant touches that really added to its appeal. If I had to nickpick one detail, is to remove the armoire's door so that the other person in bed can watch a movie at night (but really this a minor minor complaint, cause we were there is spend most of our time out doors). April was a great host, and she was there anytime we had a question but also a great person to have a conversation with. She hooked up us with Torsten, a private chef to come cook for us one night, and it was a meal we won't forget. If you need tours, restaurant recommendations, she is know everything about the area. Peaceful retreat from life

We were so blessed to have 6 nights at Emerald Abode! The picture of the woman in the pool is what drew us there and it was definitely the highlight of our stay. It was so peaceful and beautiful we could have stayed right there all day! The pool has jets in it, no chlorine as it is run on a filter system and heated by the sun. It was the perfect temperature all the time. Laying on the loungers and looking at the star filled sky at night was awesome! We enjoyed the 'open air' feeling of the abode. April was very helpful in any way we asked- a WONDERFUL host! She gave us a rep to call for a car rental and advised on a 4 wheel drive, which we now know is definitely necessary. She set up a horseback ride for us on the beach that was a lifetime dream and was beyond my expectations! Don't miss this! Sleeping at night with the ocean air and sounds of the waves was amazing as well as the sunsets! We are so glad we did not overbook ourselves and had lots of time to just relax and found a few very secluded beaches with shade too. Enjoy!

Awesome VRBO!

The property is very private and secluded, yet minutes away from local beaches, surf shops, stores, and restaurants. Some of the best sport fishing in the world is located south of Santa Teresa in the small port town of Malpais. We booked a half-day charter and caught Mahi Mahi, Roosterfish, and Tuna. The Emerald Abode is a fantastic property. Clean, and quiet, with spectacular views of the ocean and sunsets. The plunge pool is perfect for cooling off in the late afternoons and early evenings. We fell asleep every night to the sound of the ocean waves crashing on the beach. The property is very secure, with a robust, locking automatic gate. Be sure to rent a small to mid-size 4-wheel drive when visiting Santa Teresa. We rented a larger Toyota Landcruiser and it is much too large for driving in this area. The roads are mostly unpaved, with lots of pedestrians, quads, motorcycles, cars, and trucks of all sizes. April is a fantastic VRBO manager. She is attentive, professional, and full of local knowledge of the area. Her advice regarding places to visit and local cuisine never steered us wrong! When we return to Costa Rica, we will definitely be back to the Emerald Abode! Doug and Gayna

Your Dream Vacation Awaits Elsewhere

I do not recommend this property unless you like being dirty and sleeping and eating with a plethora bugs. I would describe this as open-air. There are only two walls with no openings to the outside. If you don't want to be swarmed with bugs, go elsewhere. The screens on the bedroom do not keep out bugs even if religiously closed. There were bugs in the bed at night, and dead bugs between my boyfriend and I in the sheets in the morning. The bathroom is also open air. I did not sit on the toilet seat due to bugs. As for the kitchen, you cannot cook without bugs galore and enjoy wiping the counter of bugs in the morning with the one dish towel you get. I had to leave. I am not one for camping. We stayed at three other places in Costa Rica during this trip, including another in Santa Teresa, and we did not have the same issue with bugs. Please know you will get one set of towels to last you a week. Normally okay, but it is hot and buggy. Also, the jacuzzi was discolored. Not knowing what it was, I would not sit in there. Most disturbing was how the owner was unprofessional. When we talked the day of our arrival, she told me she was not doing okay. Not what you want to hear when you are on your way to have a carefree, fun vacation. She also lives on the property and will yell up to you--so much for privacy. Additionally, when I told her about the bugs, she claimed she saw no evidence of bugs (small and black and could not be photographed against the dark wood) the next afternoon and asked me the "REAL reason I left". I have received no resolution from her or HomeAway. There are some great places in Santa Teresa that are clean with great views, privacy, and wonderful people. Your dream vacation awaits you elsewhere.
