I love this Russian dichotomy - on one side of Red Square is the Kremlin, bastion of communism, whilst along the opposite side is the GUM Department Store, bastion of consumerism. Only in Russia!

The building is superb, architecturally, and a haven from the heat or cold outside. It's a place to browse, window shop and people watch as the prices are astronomical (which probably explains why most of the shops seemed empty). Great place to wile away an hour or grab a coffee.

You'll have to find your way to Moscow City Centre to reach this shopper's paradise. If you intend to do some sightseeing when you're done, why not swing by Red Square? It won't take long to get to from GUM Department Store.
