Salt & Light: Charming Contemporary Studio, Dog-friendly and Close to the Beach!

Summary:
Welcome to Salt & Light, Unit 4 at Milepost 16!

The property is located (you guessed it) at Milepost 16 in Nags Head. Located across the street from the Glidden Street beach access, the property sits on a semi-oceanfront lot (see aerial photos above).

A dog-friendly downstairs unit with a studio layout, Salt & Light features a well-equipped kitchen, a flat screen TV, WiFi, a shared, coin-operated washer & dryer, and a mini-split heating & air conditioning system for optimal temperature control. 

The outdoor area offers an outdoor shower and an outdoor hose. For your convenience, the unit has a cart for hauling your beach gear to and from the sand.

Linens and cleaning are included in the rate. Linens are provided by an independent vendor (bed linens, bath towels, washcloths, sheets). Bed will be made when you arrive!

Our awesome caretakers, Mike and Lisa, live nearby and are as committed to your experience as we are.

In addition to many local retail shops, fine and casual dining establishments and grocery stores, the cottage is also close to many great local attractions including the beautifully renovated Jennette's Pier (less than one half mile away), the North Carolina Aquarium in Manteo, Jockey's Ridge, Tanger Outlet shopping, Bodie Island Lighthouse, Coquina Beach, and off-roading and fishing at Oregon Inlet.

There is a two-dog maximum, we do not allow cats, and we do not charge a pet fee. There is no smoking allowed in the unit. This unit is not handicap accessible. We have a 30-day cancellation policy - refunds will only be issued if cancellation is submitted in writing to the property manager outside of 30 days from check-in date.

Great spot for a couple and their pups!

This was a perfect studio apartment directly across from easy access to the beach. It is on the quieter end of the beach as well. The hosts were very helpful with recommendations for places to eat!

Great for couples!

Stayed here over Labor Day Weekend with my girlfriend, and this place is so convenient for the beach (a 2-3 minute walk directly across the street) or for other activities up and down OBX. The only thing I might suggest is more utensils for those who prefer eating in rather than going out to eat. Otherwise, I would happily stay here again if I'm in Nags Head in the future!

Getaway

My husband and I just stayed August 24-28 and it was such a nice getaway from home life,it’s super close to the beach, just a walk across the street, it’s such a cute comfortable studio just the right size for us & our little Yorkie. Will definitely stay again. Lisa and Mike the caretakers are so nice & Amy was great !

My husband and I loved our stay in the OBX with our two dogs. The place was exactly what we needed and the walk to the beach was better than we had thought it would be. Convenient outdoor shower and laundry area. We will most definitely be looking here to visit again in the future.

Can you say “beach time”?

Staying at this property was wonderful. Literally a block and a half to the access for an amazing white sand beach. We had a lovely family of five staying upstairs, and sometimes they were a little noisy, however, we had already made friends with them, and found that many people staying in the area were extremely friendly and helpful. If living on the beach and cooking out of the modestly appointed, full-size kitchen are not your jam, there are other activities that are equally fun and entertaining. A couple of codicils, for sure, bring your own pillows, additional toilet paper, and cleaning supplies, and if you look to eat out, make sure you’re making reservations well in advance. The hosts are very responsive, and give you lists of places to go and eat, and activities that you might like to do.

Wasn't the Best....

When we arrived, the room was very clean.. but did see bugs, roaches from time to time.. It seemed we didn't Communicate Very Well with whomever (several Different) people who we contacted.. Room was nice, but the Friendlyness of whom we were in contact with, the few times i needed something, wasnt the greatest.. I didn't get messages about how to leave room, until after i had already left, so i Didnt follow instructions.. Sry about that.. The People who stayed above us in other unit, were VERY loud.. Could Hear EVERYTHING that went on above us.. Day an NIGHT.. Very Disappointing.. We Wont be coming back..or Recommending..! The last place we stayed at a few years ago, in Kill Devil Hills.. There welcome basket included a bottle of Wine and Small Chocolates, a vase of Fresh Flowers.. .. yalls was 6 donuts... 😕 So i guess we Will Be Going Back To Kill Devil Hills in Future Stays..

No soundproofing

PROs - Location, location, location. Off the main drag, but without road noise, and walkable to public beach access, Jeanette's Pier, restaurants and shops. Fairly clean, and convenient having a kitchenette and some dishes. Helpful that the TV swivels for viewing from the dinette and from the bed (since you can't really watch it from the couch). Great that we were able to bring our pup, and there was a small grassy area out back. The mattress was comfy. Complementary gift certificate for 1/2 dozen Duck Donuts was a nice touch. CONs - NO Soundproofing to speak of. If there is a tenant in the upstairs rental, You Will Hear Everything. Every footstep, discussion, television show...and loudly. Our dog was concerned, thinking strangers were trying to break in (much barking ensued). Very little sleep while they were there (first night). Apartment clean and appeared to be fairly recently updated, but the place had an underlying scent - worn and tired, like damp basement and old ashtrays. The bedspread has seen better days. Modestly appointed kitchenette; dishes were sparse and there was little mismatched cutlery. Had trouble navigating the Roku and a message to the host went unanswered, but we finally saw instructions on the back of the channel guide and figured it out. All in all, a decent stay for the price, like going to a roadside motel from the 70s that has had a cosmetic makeover. It's okay, but we won't be back.

The apartment is in a great spot, short walk to the beach, near restaurants and shopping. Well taken care of and clean. Appreciated being able to bring our two dogs. We would definitely stay there again!

Cute and cozy

This is a perfect location to get to any area of the outer banks.The property manager sent very good recommendations for places to eat, which is helpful for a visitor. Great shower!I missed not having a closet but the dresser accommodated most of my items. Best of all, a great beach less than a block away.

Very clean and comfortable, just across the Virginia Dare Trail from the Glidden Beach access. The king size bed was quite comfortable, and the small loveseat was adequate for watching TV on rainy afternoons and evenings. The kitchen was small with the basic tools needed for a weeklong trip for two people. The Dunes restaurant is basically right next door, and the outlet mall is just across the highway. The communication was clear, friendly, and proactive. I was particularly grateful for that when we inadvertently locked ourselves out and Lisa came right away to let us in. This is perfect for a stay in Nags Head, and I look forward to a return visit!
