"The General Denver is a charming hotel in a beautiful old building in the pretty town of Wilmington. We planned an overnight stay when we attended a concert across the street at the Murphy Theater. Certainly couldn't have been more convenient! We only met three of the staff, the host for the restaurant, the woman at the front desk who checked us in, and a lady who took us to our floor in the elevator (my husband uses a cane and stairs are difficult, though not impossible, for him). The elevator lady was delightful, telling us how to call the elevator when we needed it, what a quiet weekend it had been, and so on. When we called the elevator later, it was a little slow to arrive because the elevator lady was vacuuming the main floor. It was kind of like staying with family. We'd hoped to have breakfast in the large, sunny restaurant, but it did not open until 11:00 a.m., by which time we had checked out. However, the woman at the front desk directed us to a vending area with continental breakfast, including juice, coffee, milk, cereal, donuts, pastries, etc. that was available to all guests. This worked fine for us. Our only complaint was the AC that was pouring out of a vent in the ceiling just inside the door to our room. There was no way to adjust it, so we kind of avoided going near it, which was difficult since it was adjacent to the bathroom. That definitely discouraged me from taking a shower first thing in the morning. All in all, we enjoyed our stay."

"Overall, it was a decent stay. The room was clean, and the front-desk staff were courteous and helpful. As other reviews have mentioned, the breakfast left something to be desired, but it wasn’t bad—there was plenty of food and even name-brand Pop-Tarts. Nearly everything was prepackaged and full of sugar, though. Still, I’ve definitely seen worse hotel breakfasts. The biggest downside was the noise. The doors were extremely squeaky, and the stairs creaked a ton, so you could hear people moving around. It also seemed like anyone could enter and roam the upstairs hallways without a room key, which felt a little sketchy. Overall, it was a decent stay for the money with a clean room and helpful staff, but the noise and unsecured hallways brought it down—3/5."

"The property was great for our trip. The front area of the house felt large because of the vaulted ceiling. The seating was very comfortable in that room, the coffee table was a little awkward to eat at, but it worked. The kitchenette and fridge worked perfectly for us. The bathroom was spacious and well stocked with any item you could have forgot to pack. The monogrammed towels were a very nice touch. The bed was nice, didn't work for me but worked for my wife. The couch worked well for me as it was firmer. This isn't a knock on the bed, I just sleep poorly on soft mattresses.Didn't get to use the fire-table outside but the yard was very well kept. I would 100% recommend this property for a short vacation and we hope to be back next July.Rob"
