"Location was amazing! Staff very welcoming and friendly and the free travel pass and discounts on attractions was awesome! So easy to hop on the tram and head to Old Town Basel! The room was IMMACULATE! Beds were a bit close together but they were incredibly comfortable; the mattress, pillows and covers were so luxurious feeling. Again everything was so clean. Really enjoyed our visit and stay here again!"

"This was our third stay in four years which s a strong recommendation. Our room was good and was very quiet despite being close to the bus and train stations. The staff were very helpful with one exception when they found it difficult to give precise directions to a landmark in the city - quickly corrected by another member of staff. The room met all our needs and had a kettle, safe and small fridge - all very useful for our stay of 8 days. Sadly none of the rooms in our price range had a shower (only a shower over the bath), but with difficulty we managed. One great bonus is its easy access to the railway station (2 minutes away) which was important as we used the Swiss Travel Pass extensively throughout our stay. Everything was as we expected it to be and overall we recommend The Metropol warmly."

"Really nice place to use as a base. Location is perfect for exploring Basel. Facilities were clean and perfectly functional for our needs. The breakfast was ample, with a good variety of fresh food and drinks. There is a bit of a walk from reception to the room but not excessive and does involve a couple of flights of stairs. Breakfast is on the 8th floor which you can get to by lift. From here you have lovely views over the city. The staff were always helpful when we had questions. Would recommend for a budget friendly option with great location."

"Overall this is a very good hotel. The rooms are very clean, the staff are superb and very helpful. I especially liked them providing me with a bottle to fill with water, freely available on each floor -this was wonderful. My only criticism, and I’m being pedantic, is that it’s not obvious where to pay for items in reception fridges, I queued at bar only to be told I had to wait behind 5 people at reception waiting to checkout (I was joined by 6 others waiting to pay for same items at bar) But that shouldn’t put you off this excellent hotel."
