Staff is not helpful, not friendly at all. room is smelling sweat. We like the location is close to everything and walkable.

The restaurants that require reservations were not worth it. The service at those was terrible at each one. We ended up getting better service from the buffet. The restaurants were a 2 hour dinner for a party of 2. As a whole I would rate the food as mediocre at best. The virgin drinks were really good. The hotel only has 1 event space and it's the same dance group every night dancing to different music each night. Romell the bellman was fantastic. And Tori behind the front desk in the evening was incredible.i get that the hotel is on the beach, but the floors in the bedroom always felt like they had sand on them. If you lose your wrist band it's $250 to replace it. If you lose a towel card it's $20 to replace it. If we go back, we wouldn't choose the Riu again. Good luck contacting the hotel if you need something before your stay.

The staff was incredibly helpful but I have to share that when I was getting on the elevator with my two small children ages 9 and 3, the elevator doors began to close and even as a stepped in to push open the doors they continued closing. Understandably this frightened not only me, but my two kids. When we went downstairs to notify the staff of what could've been a horrific situation they shared that someone had notified them of a burning smell near the elevators and that they were conducting maintenance. I am sick to my stomach thinking about what could've happened and am grateful that no one was injured.

The room, surrounding, beach and pool where well-kept and maintained. However there isn't much to do outside the compound as it is away from local shops and downtown. Generally friendly staff, although I did had a distasteful phone interaction with one receptionist while reporting an incident in our room, but after insisting that it has to be dealt with, management stepped in and rectified it. Overall My wife and I had a good and relaxing stay.

Booked this online via Expedia because it looked great - got to the site and it was CLOSED FOR RENOVATIONS. Luckily we were able to contact someone on site so they could set up a cot for us, but the place was CLOSED FOR RENOVATIONS so there were no services. The airline had lost our luggage, so we had to wait at the property because that’s where the airline was bringing our luggage, even though it WAS CLOSED FOR RENOVATIONS. But eventually the airline told us they WEREN’T bringing our luggage. So we had to go to the airport to get our luggage, then find somewhere else on the spot. Wound up at a decrepit hotel where the power went out twice and everything smelled mouldy. Also everything was damp, so didn’t get a decent night’s sleep while we were there. At least it wasn’t CLOSED FOR RENOVATIONS (but probably should have been).
