Escape the bustle of central Cabo Frio and bask on the soft golden sand beaches on a visit to Peró. Make your way to this seaside neighborhood and while away hours swimming, sunbathing and sampling typical Brazilian beach cuisine. As well as its beaches, Peró offers opportunities to hike to hilltops and over headlands to enjoy views of glistening waters and tropical islands.
Bring the family to the clean and wide Peró Beach and mingle with the local beachgoers. The crystal-clear water is often cold but is perfect for cooling off on hot summer days. At the southern end of the beach you can rent beach umbrellas and chairs and purchase coconut water, ice creams, pizza and seafood snacks.
Get away from the crowds by walking to the wild northern areas of the bay and have fun exploring the ever-shifting dunes.
More seaside recreation and relaxation awaits at the smaller Conchas Beach. Like its Peró Beach neighbor, the beach has a lively southern end with bars, kiosks and seafood shacks and a quieter northern section. Sheltered by headlands, the water here is calm and great for a refreshing dip. Dabble in watersports, such as kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding, and go for an exhilarating ride on an inflatable water sled.
Separating the beaches is a headland of the Costa do Sol State Park, which protects coastal areas in the Região dos Lagos (Lakes Region.) Hike the natural pathways to viewpoints, rock pools and secluded beaches. Trails also lead over and around Praia das Conchas Hill. Sit on the rocks at the base of the hill and gaze out toward Ilha Dois Irmãos and other islands.
Peró is a 15-minute drive to the east of central Cabo Frio. There’s a public bus service, although traveling by taxi is a more convenient way to get here. Hotels, posadas and self-catering apartments provide accommodation options to suit most budgets within a short walk of Peró Beach.
