Lonigo must see attractions

1. Verona Arena

Dominating the skyline of Verona is Arena di Verona, a Roman amphitheater that is one of the largest in the world. Built in A.D. 30, the arena is one of the oldest structures in the city and a building of colossal proportions. It’s also one of Verona’s most popular attractions and draws over 500,000 visitors to the city each year. Admire its architecture and watch an opera from its historic stone steps.

2. Juliet's House

Recreate a scene from one of the world’s greatest love stories at this historic house in Verona. Casa di Giulietta is, as the story goes, the former home of Juliet, one of the protagonists from William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. 4. Piazza Bra

Piazza Bra is the largest square in Verona and one of the best places in the city to watch daily life go by. Its position just inside the city gates means it acts as a welcoming ground for new arrivals to Verona. Lined with restaurants, bars and many of the city’s most iconic attractions, it’s no wonder Piazza Bra is busy at all times of the day.

5. Castelvecchio

Take a step back in time to life in Verona during the Middle Ages at Castelvecchio. This riverfront castle is among the most significant military buildings erected by the noble Scaligeri family, who once ruled the city as the Lords of Verona. Wander the grounds of Castelvecchio and then spend time browsing the art exhibitions of the excellent Castelvecchio Museum (Museo di Castelvecchio).

On the banks of the Adige, Castelvecchio was built by the Scaligeri in 1354-55, an impressive defensive fortress certain to remind any rivals of the power of the della Scala family. Crossing the river is the beautiful castellated Ponte Scaligero, a 14th-century bridge that's traffic free and a favorite stroll for local families. The castle's main tower and ramparts afford views of the bridge, the city, and surrounding hills. The castle interior has been brilliantly restored and transformed into bright exhibit space by architect Carlo Scarpa, without sacrificing the integrity or history of the castle. The collections of the Civico Museo d'Arte are shown here, featuring Veronese sculpture, applied art, and paintings, with works by Bellini, Rubens, Montagna, Guardi, Tiepolo, Tintoretto, Pisano, and artists of the 15th- and 16th-century Veronese school. A few steps up Corso Cavour is the Arco dei Gavi, a first-century stone arched gate that spanned a Roman road; look for the grooves worn by chariot wheels in the stone below the arch.
