"The villa was spacious and well appointed. Two bedrooms, 1 Double and 1 Twin. The bathroom was well equipped with shower, toilet, bidet, sink etc. The Lounge/Kitchen/Diner was again spacious and well furnished. The hob and cooker were easy to use and there is a also a microwave and toaster. There is a large fridge with a freezer cupboard above, large enough for sufficient food for almost a week for a family of 4.The pool isn't heated which towards the end of the season isn't ideal as it takes some time to get used to, but during the full summer months wouldn't be an issue.Ibrahim, Karima and son Omar are very friendly and couldn't do enough for us during our stay of 19 days. We arrived to find a welcome pack of milk, bread, fruit and other items which made the first day very easy as we didn't have to buy anything.Travel to the local villages is easy and further into Rethymnon is about 15-20 mins. Plenty of Restaurants', bars and shops. There is also a Lidl store nearby although during the week this closes promptly at 9:00pm. There are other mini-market shops locally for supplies after this time.For information, if you have any mobility issues this may not be the property for you, due to some steep slopes, and having a car with a bigger engine (1.3L and above) is recommended as smaller engined cars may struggle. Other than these minor points we cannot recommend Sunset Villa highly enough and are planning our return there already."

"We had the most amazing stay from start to finish. We got there after midnight due to flight times, but were offered a guide to get us there or clear directions with a code for a key box. When we got there, the property had outside lights to guide us in and a fridge with a home cooked meal in, snacks, wine, olive oil and fruit. :-). So welcoming. The next day when we woke up we realised how beautiful the villa was and the views are just stunning. There is a twisty mountain road to get up to the villa but it’s very quiet. You’ll see more goats than cars. Take your time and enjoy the scenery and all is well. The pool was spacious and clean. The bed was comfortable, the showers wonderful and it was very well equipped. The villa is within half an hour of Rethymno which is delightful. We were also within an easy drive of Knossos, Chania, Heraklion and Lake Kournas. One day however, we just stayed home and enjoyed the relaxation of the villa. :-)As we had a super late flight home and as no one was due to arrive the day we left, our hosts kindly agreed that we could stay way beyond the check out time and enjoy our last day without rushing. We stayed until 4pm and we are so appreciative of the kindness. We even received a parting gift. I cannot recommend Harkia Villas enough. Simply stunning. X. "

"DO NOT BOOK THIS LOCATION...EVER!!! The owner double booked his house in August 2025 and when we arrived to check in, another family was there. He didn't care that he double booked it and we had to find another place to stay at 10 pm at night in a country we don't live in. He didn't care and now will not even refund us for the payment when we didn't even stay there. Absolutely unacceptable for a family of four to be displaced because of his negligence. And we're equally disappointed in Expedia for not going the distance to either get our refund or remove this person from their Expedia search. We're out over $250 plus had to pay for another hotel night 30 miles away. You just don't do that to anybody. DO NOT STAY HERE!!"

"Beautiful old village house tastefully converted with lots of original features and old artefacts adorning the walls and nooks and crannies. Several seating areas with shade so although it sleeps 8 there is space to find some peace and quiet if wanted. Lovely pool area. In a small village with a local taverna but nothing else. A car is needed to get to other villages or areas of interest and to the beach. The closest beach are send quite developed so we chose to drive a little further but found lovely beaches within a 30 minute drive. Rethymno old town is about 20 minutes drive. Maria the host was really helpful and the check in process smooth. Highly recommended!"

"This modern villa is spotlessly clean throughout with panoramic views in every direction. Even from inside the Villa the view through the windows changes each day like a living painting. It’s spectacular. The grounds are completely enclosed and child friendly with plenty of space for kids to play and adults to chill. The gardens are very well maintained and watered, if you’re from the UK think of a national trust garden with Mediterranean plants. It is also very well lit in the evenings with the BBQ dining area overlooking the top half of Crete (not exaggerating) being one of the gardens hi-lights.The Villa feels secluded in it’s own hillside setting but is at most a 7 minute drive back down to shops, bars, restaurants and the beach. So on those sweltering afternoons where the heat of the coast is getting too much, in 10 minutes you can be in your own gorgeous pool with a mountain breeze. Perfect!Eleni deserves her own 5* review but I’m running out of space! A flawless host who is kind, caring, quick to respond to any messages and super friendly. Thank you Eleni! There are no downsides, the beds are comfy, the pool is sparkling, the garden is stunning, the water pressure is great, the wifi is fast, I could go on and on.Stop searching now and book this place, you wont regret it and you’ll never want to leave.Thank you so much!
