The Space:
As you walk into the lower level you are greeted with natural stone tables and sofa base, boulders used to give it a grotto feeling. The sofa/bench can be used as a single twin bed. The main bathroom is also on the lower level, the shower was created to mimic a small waterfall, the bathing area can be concealed from the garden room by using the pocket french doors. This level is very organic, built with large boulders. In times of heavy rains, a small amount of water may pool in the hallway leading to the bathing area. This is a natural occurrence and does not affect the unique structure. A spiral staircase leads from the lower/entry area to the main living area which in includes the dinning, kitchen and living areas. This area features redwood floors and linear redwood boards with textured white walls throughout. Features floor to ceiling windows. The dinning table is movable through out the main living area as well as movable stools/end tables. The kitchen stove/sink/refrigerator unit is original and was used in railroad cars. There is minimal freezer space and no ice maker, so we recommend you bring ice with you. The stainless steel sink is built into the stainless steel counter top. The two in-wall dual A/C and Heating Unit system are located on this floor. In cooler months - Infrared heaters are on the first two levels which can be used in addition to the two in-wall units located on the main floor. In summer - there are fans on all three levels, that can be used in addition to the two in-wall units located on the main floor. The living area features two built in benches that can be used as twin beds. This main floor has great views and access to the 30 foot deck, complete with two flambeaux grills, attached to the steel deck supports. Due to insurance purposes these are now just architectural details and do not function as grills or lights. The deck extends into the trees allowing a beautiful view. Up another level is the loft with a queen-sized bed and wonderful views of the outdoors and beautiful architecture. The floor is also constructed of redwood boards laid on their sides. The railings surrounding the sleeping loft are rather low and does not accommodate small children. Please note the cottage is located within a dry county please bring libations with you. We will be available during your stay by phone, email or text. The main Daikin HVAC system is located on the 3rd level in the sleeping loft. There are two in-wall units that are dual system A/C and Heat. In cooler months - Infrared heaters are on the first level which can be used.

Staying at Stoneflower felt like an honor. I love unique architecture, and I was not disappointed. My husband and I enjoyed the history of the place while looking through the magazine articles provided and just exploring the beauty that this building and its surroundings had to offer. Also I must say, for it being literally in the middle of a bunch of other houses you really did not feel surrounded, it was quiet and felt very private. I loved listening to the birds each morning and the simplicity of the building itself was so refreshing. It actually had an adventurous feel to it as well, showering in a waterfall in a cave was definitely a unique experience. Truly a beautiful experience and would definitely stay again!
Beautiful Fay Jones designed home in the wilderness of Eden Island just outside Heber Springs. Upon entry, you experience how the home is crafted with nature. Unique designs, awesome experience, and well kept property considering its delicacies. The master bed seemed new, but not king size as I thought advertiaed. Maybe just a quick listing update ;)Thanks for sharing this once in a lifetime masterpiece!
It was such a treat to stay in this cottage. It has a beautiful view is the lake and surrounding trees. It was a most comfortable post holiday getaway!
We enjoyed our weekend at the Stoneflower Cottage. It was a great place to get-away and probably the most unique accommodations we've ever experienced.
It was a lovely stay in a beautiful area. Everything was as described, and communication was great. We would definitely recommend it (though perhaps not to someone with small children).
This place was just stunning! Thank you for everything.

The uniqueness of the E. Fay Jones architecture is absolutely stunning. The accomodations, more specially, the upkeep of this national treasure is less than desirable. We had to sweep the deck off ourselves for it to even be used and MOST of the light fixtures (a key element to any E. Fay Jones design) had multiple burnt out bulbs. The price we paid for this unique experience and the fact that it was not maintained is inexcusable. The landscape was not well maintained. It was as if they had simply dusted and mopped, made some beds and said "that's good enough". Not impressed with this hosts lack of attention and desire to be paid for it. Know what you are getting into if you choose to rent this one of a kind home. Again, the home is beautiful, but not beautifully maintained for the price.
Both my wife and I are architects and have great admiration for Faye Jones work so the opportunity to stay in a home designed by Faye Jones was spectacular! It is very comfortable and and in a serene setting. Overall was a very comfortable place to relax and unwind! We had great weather , cool mornings to enjoy coffee on the expansive deck and comfortable evenings where we had dinner on the deck too.
We travel full-time and stay either at properties through other travel sites and hotels. This was our first stay through Vrbo, and I am so impressed. We have been fans of Fay Jones for a very long time, and Frank Lloyd Wright before him. It was nothing short of magical being able to spend the week actually living in a Jones creation. The neighborhood is gorgeous and quiet. The house itself is a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. It is strange and wonderful—so fitting with our personalities and aesthetic preferences. I cannot wait to come back. Check-in was incredibly easy and when I had a question, I received an immediate response. Thank you for a very special place to spend my birthday week.

Expensive for being a work in progress
At almost $500 a night, expected the preservation to be complete and not in progress. HVAC and electrical both need updating. Property is not well equipped. Information sheets need updating. It was great spending time in a property that reflects the creativity and genius of Fay Jones. With a little TLC and money, it will be worth the current rates.

One Time Trip
While the property is unique, it could use better maintenance and up keep. Many light bulbs needed replacing or entire fixture repaired, fans didn't work, shower handle would come off in your hand, loose steps on the spiral stairways, entry doors did not securely lock and as we were on our way there received a notice that the cable and internet would not be working until the day we were leaving(a lightning strike).
This was a unique one time experience, but we won't need to return.
It was very romantic--especially the basement: the shower is everything and more! The kitchen could stand updating, as the stove and burners were not working, but the plug-in induction burner plate and double burner was good enough. There were also a few ants in the kitchen, but I'm guessing it was from food/crumbs that prior guests had that got under the formica countertop. No big deal, the rest of the cabin was so stunning that a little inconvenience did not affect the beauty of the structure. The bed was comfortable, and the linens were fresh. Our favorite part was the backyard--the grounds were well-kept and it was so peaceful. Pictures cannot capture the ambiance of this gorgeous cottage!
We got engaged on this trip at Collins Creek Falls, and my fiance had planned everything, so that made the trip memorable anyway. We hated to leave and we definitely plan to return!
Even in the rain, this place is fantastic! Before it started raining we enjoyed phenomenal nearby hiking (including Bridal Veil Falls and trails near Fairfield Bay, AR). Once the rain started, we just enjoyed the lovely atmosphere of the two main levels of Stoneflower. Though I have been here several time, I never had actually taken time to enjoy the fireplace downstairs but I did this time and it was fantastic! The main level (with all the windows) is gorgeous with the rain! Though we did not utilize the deck, it looks like everything has been updated - new table, new furniture, etc. I am definitely looking forward to enjoying that deck during a sunny return! Speaking of updates, new fridge, freezer, stove and dishwasher make this wonderful house even easier to stay in and enjoy! The owners/hosts have done a fantastic job keeping the property true to spirit while still updating and keeping the place looking top notch! Very appreciative for the trip! Rain or shine this place is delightful! Thank you!

Cool but Unmaintained house
The house has good bones but suffers from being run by a property management company that doesn’t seem to truly care about it except to bleed it for all its worth. For as much as you pay to stay here you think they could invest some of that into the house. Why am I paying cleaning fees when I walk into facefulls of spider webs around every turn and have to wash the dishes and take out the trash? The backyard has never been touched in years and looks like what could have been a cool fountain and pond area. However, the pond has been stagnant for years, full of sludge and mosquitos making it almost impossible to sit in the deck without being eaten alive (20 mosquito bites in 5 minutes of trying to walk around and enjoy the space). Also, the legs of the furniture on the deck fall through the boards so you can’t even use them without falling over. It was passable but I would not recommend this stay to anyone. The house has built in rock shelves but you can’t even put in the most basic of art of something of interest? Borderline scam price for what you get. Offering only a double bed is ridiculous.

Tragic disrepair
We were all so excited to stay in this beautiful Fay Jones house, and to spend our weekend in Eden Isle. But the problems started when we were en route. The property manager emailed to say there was a leak in the kitchen, but they had someone coming to attempt repair. Suffice to say the leak did not get fixed, and the list of problems when we arrived unfortunately got much longer:
though we arrived in the dark, all driveway and deck lights were out of order,
the kitchen leak caused a slow, steady stream of water to flow downstairs through the ceiling of the floor level living space; the resulting mold/mildew triggered my asthma, and the resulting water spilling across the kitchen floor caused our son to fall and hurt his leg,
one of the two window unit a/c’s wouldn’t turn on initially, but thankfully it finally did b/c when we arrived it was 80+ degrees inside the house,
there were spider webs all around the house and many ants in the kitchen,
the garbage disposal along with 2 of the 3 burners on the stove were all either broken or completely disconnected
there was no working hot water in the kitchen
bedding for the two sofas was old and insufficient (one flat sheet and one throw blanket),
towels were mismatched and a little too well used,
coffee maker and microwave both appeared to be about 20 years old and though in working order not what we expected,
the dim interior lighting flickered frequently. We suspect some rewiring may be in order, and looked for smoke detectors but couldn’t find any,
and
the exterior of the home needs much love as well: paint, patching, pressure washing and especially window cleaning (to feature the beautiful views), plus an overhaul of the amazing side garden that has become so overgrown it’s not a usable space.
Zach, the property manager, was responsive and could not have been nicer, the waterfall shower is amazing, and we love the location (hence 2 stars). They did issue a refund for our stay because there were so many problems, which was the right thing and we appreciate. I’ve never left such a negative review, but this is not the shining glory that Fay Jones designed. It’s a rental house someone has taken for granted. Try it, but know before you go. I wish we had. We look forward to seeing this gorgeous property loved on and restored!
Staying in the stunning Stoneflower Cottage is a memory that will last a lifetime. The beauty of the architecture in such a gorgeous location made every moment magical.
Pro tip: pack a robe & slippers; the grotto is the only place to shower, and it gets quite cold down there in winter.

Stoneflower
Overall impression was generally good. Great architecture, but not practical in some ways, but fully enjoyable for the most part.
Good: Light switches, TV, Heating and Cooling operation of all were very well described in instruction prior to arrival and well mark throughout the property.
Internet very strong and fast, cable TV aplenty.
Kitchen fairly well stocked with utensils, plates, a few pans, etc. even some spices, foil, plastic bags, etc.
Bad: Consider this a bit like "glamping" great bed with linens upstairs, but for sleeping beyond two, no linens provided and the beds were actually two couches have to be moved together. We went to nearby Walmart and purchased an air mattress and linens and all was well.
Privacy beyond two people is a bit limited due to openness of the property, one bath with a 1/2 in the kitchen.
We arrived after dark in the winter and structure was very cold, was a little cold the first night, but after structure warmed up heating was completely sufficient.
If you like unique, historical, natural and can handle nuances of a 1965 property in stride, then I highly suggest this experience. If you have more than one couple, consider it glamping and some prepared with a few extras for sleeping.
You don't need to be adventurous to enjoy this place, but if you require pampering, only enjoy 5 star or are a whiner about small inconveniences, this is not for you. I did not feel misled at all, except for linens, the place is quite accurately described in the literature.
By the way, I was at a loss of how to rate communication with property manager as I had no direct contact and did not need any, but it is a required response on this survey.
I am glad to have experience it!
Even though we saw the pictures on VRBO of the place, we really didn’t know what to expect. We were delightfully pleased! Although, being pregnant, probably not the safest house to stay at with all of the rocks to step over and the spiral staircases, but I seemed to manage alright :). The architecture was beautiful, especially in the morning light and we really enjoyed being out on the deck. As many other visitors will know, the light switches got to be a bit confusing, but the property managers made sure to label all of the switches. Lastly the check in and check out process was super easy. Thanks for the amazing weekend!
Wonderful long weekend with the Wife, calling a piece of architectural history “home,” is as good as it gets. This was our 2nd trip and far from our last. If you’re on the fence about this place, make the jump
and do it!
