The lighthouse on Gabo Island guards the eastern entrance to Bass Strait in #Australia. It is an active navigation lighthouse and weather station for the Australian Bureau of Meteorology.
It was built in 1853 from red granite sourced on the island. The wind blew down the windbreak wall, so buttresses were added for stability.
We went to the top for perfect 360 degree views on a blue sky day.
Access to the island is generally by boat and one can stay overnight!

"We absolutely loved our stay in Mallacoota. From the moment we walked through the door, the home had such a warm and welcoming ambience, complemented by truly stunning views. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the entire house was beautifully fitted out with everything we needed. The location was excellent—peaceful, convenient, and perfect for exploring the area. We also really appreciated the secure yard, which was ideal for our dog to safely enjoy. We genuinely wished we could have stayed longer. Highly recommend this fantastic getaway!"
