Explore this exciting area of Milan to visit upscale fashion boutiques, museums and restaurants before enjoying the city’s best nightlife.

The Porta Garibaldi neighborhood is a short walk from Milan’s city center and packed full of attractions. Fill your bags with souvenirs along shopping streets and dine at some of the city’s top restaurants along the way. Don’t leave without a photo of the ornate Garibaldi Gate.

Corso Como is one of Milan’s most popular streets. The pedestrian thoroughfare buzzes with people enjoying Italian food and exploring connecting streets lined with trendy shops. It’s also home to the Fondazione Sozzani art museum. Step inside to admire exhibitions of architecture, design and photography. The shopping and dining complex of 10 Corso Como features designer brand names and is often visited by celebrities.

A favorite of photographers, Piazza Gae Aulenti highlights futuristic architecture. Go to the top of the Unicredit Tower, one of Italy’s tallest skyscrapers, for incredible views. On the ground, stay until nightfall to see the square’s solar tree light up. Continue through the night at an exciting array of bars and clubs within walking distance.

Art lovers have many choices in this district. Discover the works of Italian and international artists at Antonio Colombo Arte Contemporanea, along with contemporary performance art at Galleria Lia Rumma. Galleria Monica de Cardenas showcases revolving exhibitions from established and emerging artists from across the world. For art of a different kind, see the ornate obelisks and Greek temples in the Cimitero Monumentale di Milano.

Visit the park and botanical garden of Parco Biblioteca degli Alberi in nearby Porta Nuova to see the stunning Bosco Verticale. The name translates to “Vertical Forest” and describes the tall residential buildings covered with shrubs and trees. To dine or buy food souvenirs to take home, thrill your taste buds at Mercato Comunale Isola, a covered market filled with gourmet foods.

Porta Garibaldi is within walking distance of the city center, numerous hotels and a major train station. Fly to Milan Malpensa Airport for a drive or public transportation ride of about 40 minutes to Porta Garibaldi.

Nice common area with bar and seating. Rooms were spacious and beds comfy. Would have been a bonus to have kettle and cups to make coffee in room, but other than that, can’t fault.
