Less crowded than Via Torino and the Corso Buenos Aires, this pedestrian street offers an authentic and luxurious Milanese shopping experience.

Milanese celebrity-spotters do well at the Corso Como, one of Milan’s best shopping districts, beloved by well-dressed and well-known locals and tourists. The neighborhood is filled with high-end boutiques by day and party spots by night. Get a taste of the Milanese high life while lingering on one of the many terraces. Try on the newest in fashion and luxury, relax with aperitivo or dance through the night.

Start exploring at the southern end of the street, where the Porta Garibaldi welcomes you under its neoclassical arch. From here, spot the Unicredit Tower, one of Italy’s tallest buildings, dwarfing everything around it. Stop to listen to street musicians and watch performers who often congregate at the foot of the gates, surrounded by curious passersby. Head down the street, stopping for a snack or some grocery shopping at the Eataly flagship store, which offers a huge selection of Italian food culture spread across several levels.

Save the most indulgent snacks for later, because the Corso Como’s famed fashion boutiques beckon from behind glass windows. Stop in at 10 Corso Como, a shopping, art, music and cuisine complex founded by the sister of the editor-in-chief of Vogue Italia. See what is being displayed in the contemporary art installations or shop for the latest trends from major designers such as Balenciaga and Alexander McQueen. Sit in the garden as dusk falls, listening to the hum of the city, before joining the crowds that throng the bars for a classic Milanese night out.

The Corso Como is located north of central Milan. A major train station, Milano Porta Garibaldi, is nearby, providing connections throughout the city. Take a train to the street in 7 minutes from Milan’s central train station or walk in 20 minutes. Reach the area from the Duomo in 15 minutes via train. The street is always open, but when the train closes late at night accessing the rest of the city can be difficult.

If you want a salad, look for the term “La Coccia,” as you may not find “Insalatona” written on the menu. Chiasso is indeed a very small Swiss town, with the convenience of being easily connected to great touristic sites, including Como, Italy. As long as you stay in a hotel with an agreement with the Swiss Tourism Office, you will get a ticket that you can use to travel in the Swiss ‘Ticino’ region for free.

I don’t like to shop especially. But Milan lived up to it’s fashion reputation. The stores along the Corso Magenta had affordable clothes that were unlike anything I could easily find in NYC and certainly not for the price. I gave my credit card a workout.
