The Goethe National Museum is devoted to chronicling the life of this famous German figure, showcasing not only his well-known literary achievements but also his influence in political, philosophical and botanical spheres. The museum includes a building that was once Goethe’s Weimar home, with additional extensions added to the structure in 1913 and 1935 to house its fast-growing collection. Find the Goethe National Museum in the south of Weimar’s historic center, less than 5 minutes’ walk from the Marktplatz. The museum is open every day except Monday. Opening hours vary depending on the time of year so be sure to check ahead. An entrance fee applies for all adults, though children under 16 go free.
